Mentor

Location - You’ll regularly travel across Lincolnshire, meeting participants and employers and attending events and placements.

Help young people build confidence, overcome barriers and take their next step into work

Are you passionate about helping young people recognise their potential and create a positive future?

We’re looking for a Mentor to join AKG (UK) Employment Ltd, supporting young people aged 18 to 24 as they prepare for, move into and thrive in employment.

This is more than helping someone find a job. You’ll build trusted relationships, celebrate progress, help people navigate challenges and provide the practical encouragement they need to turn their ambitions into achievable goals.

If you’re a natural relationship-builder who enjoys motivating others and wants a role where you can see the difference you make every day, we’d love to hear from you.

What you’ll be doing

You’ll work one-to-one with a caseload of young people, getting to know their individual goals, strengths and challenges and creating a tailored plan to help them move forward.

You’ll:

  • Build confidence and motivation, developing positive relationships that help young people stay engaged and believe in what they can achieve.
  • Create personalised action plans, identifying barriers and setting realistic, achievable goals together.
  • Get participants work-ready, supporting with CVs, job searching, interview preparation, sector exploration and developing workplace skills.
  • Connect people with opportunities, working closely with our Employer Engagement colleagues to match participants with suitable funded employment opportunities.
  • Make starting work a success, helping participants prepare for their first day and supporting both them and their employer as they settle into the workplace.
  • Be there when challenges arise, providing ongoing coaching, regular check-ins and helping to identify reasonable adjustments or additional support where needed. Quickly reconnecting with participants if employment doesn’t work out and supporting them towards another job, education or training opportunity.
  • Build strong local partnerships, working with employers, Jobcentre Plus, training providers and community organisations to create the best possible outcomes.
  • Keep great records, maintaining accurate and timely case notes, action plans and evidence of progress.

What we’re looking for

We’re looking for someone with experience of one-to-one mentoring, coaching or employment support, particularly with young people or individuals experiencing barriers to work. Experience within employability, welfare-to-work, youth employment, skills, education, training or another target-focused environment is needed, and you’ll be able to build trust, listen without judgement, offer encouragement and provide the right level of challenge to help someone keep moving forward.

You’ll bring:

  • Great communication and relationship-building skills, whether you’re speaking with a participant, employer or partner organisation.
  • An understanding of action planning, overcoming barriers, work-readiness, job matching and supporting people to sustain employment.
  • Strong organisation skills and the confidence to manage a varied caseload, prioritise your workload and work towards performance and quality standards.
  • Good IT skills and confidence using Microsoft Office, digital communication tools and case management systems.
  • An understanding of safeguarding, equality and diversity, data protection, health and safety and the importance of participant consent.
  • Knowledge of the local labour market, employer recruitment needs and routes into employment, apprenticeships, education and training would be an advantage, but it isn’t essential.
