Full job description

Role Summary (Minister of Religion)

We are recruiting a Minister of Religion to take a key leading role in our faith-based organisation, providing spiritual leadership, pastoral oversight, teaching, discipleship, and mission-focused church growth.

This role is designed as a genuine ministerial post consistent with the Home Office Minister of Religion route expectations for leading religious work. GOV.UK+1

Key Responsibilities

Spiritual leadership & worship

  • Lead and organise weekly worship services, prayer meetings, Bible studies, and special services (communion, baptisms, thanksgiving, etc.).
  • Preach and teach biblically sound messages aligned with RCCG doctrine and values.
  • Provide leadership in spiritual disciplines across the church (prayer culture, discipleship pathways, evangelism).

Pastoral care & discipleship

  • Provide pastoral support, counselling (within competence), hospital/home visits, and spiritual guidance.
  • Oversee discipleship structures (new believers’ class, workers-in-training, leadership development).
  • Conduct weddings, funerals, dedications, and other pastoral duties as required.

Church governance & operations

  • Work with church leadership/administration to plan programmes, calendars, and ministry targets.
  • Lead and develop ministry teams (choir, ushers, children/youth, evangelism, welfare, etc.).
  • Ensure safeguarding, risk awareness, and appropriate conduct in all ministry areas.

Community mission

  • Lead outreach initiatives and partnerships that serve Bolton and strengthen community impact.
  • Represent the church appropriately at local events, ministerial networks, and RCCG structures.

Essential Requirements

  • A clear Christian faith and calling into pastoral ministry with evidence of ministerial service.
  • Sound biblical knowledge and ability to teach/preach effectively.
  • Proven experience in pastoral leadership, church ministry, and team development.
  • Strong communication, organisation, integrity, and people skills.
  • Willingness to work evenings/weekends and attend church programmes/events.

Faith Occupational Requirement (Equality Act)

This post is for a ministerial leadership role within a Christian church. Therefore, being a practising Christian who can uphold RCCG’s statement of faith and lead Christian worship and teaching is an occupational requirement for this position (lawful exception). TUC

Safeguarding & Background Checks

  • The successful candidate will be required to complete an Enhanced DBS check (and any relevant safeguarding training).
  • References will be requested, including a ministry reference where applicable.
