Experienced Support Worker (Specialist 1:1 Role) between 12 - 20 Hours Per Week
Start Date: Mid January
Schedule: Wednesdays & Saturdays (set days)
We are seeking a skilled and experienced Support Worker to provide high-quality 1:1 support for a sociable 25-year-old man with mild learning disabilities and epilepsy (including Vagal Nerve Stimulator). This is a rewarding, relationship-focused role suited to a professional who is confident, compassionate, and comfortable working independently.
About the Role
You will provide structured, consistent support across a variety of daily activities, including:
- Accompanying him to his weekly Wednesday community support group
- Developing independent living skills (shopping, cooking, household routines)
- Encouraging engagement in hobbies such as basketball, video gaming, and social activities
- Supporting positive routines around hygiene, sleep, and organisation
- Safe medication administration and epilepsy management
- Offering calm, steady guidance when concentration is challenging
This is an active role involving community outings, walking, and occasional light physical assistance (e.g., very rare wheelchair use). A driving licence is beneficial but not essential.
What We’re Looking For
To ensure the right match and level of support, we are particularly interested in applicants who bring established experience and confidence to the role.
Essential Criteria:
- Availability every Wednesday and Saturday
- Minimum 2 years’ experience supporting individuals with learning disabilities
- Direct experience with epilepsy support, including rescue medication administration
- Strong communication skills and a patient, reassuring approach
- Ability to work independently, follow structured plans, and maintain positive routines
- A warm, encouraging personality with a professional, reliable mindset
