Provide veterinary nursing care to a wide range of wildlife species, including monitoring patients before, during and after treatment and procedures.
Monitor anaesthesia and assist the veterinary surgeon with clinical procedures and treatments.
Provide appropriate nursing care for hospitalised patients and support the veterinary team in assessing and responding to changes in patient condition.
Assist with admissions and clinical triage, identifying animals requiring veterinary assessment and ensuring appropriate information is recorded and communicated.
Undertake faecal parasitology and other appropriate diagnostic testing as required.
Foster injured and orphaned wildlife at home in accordance with a rota

Clinical Support & Veterinary Services

Work closely with the Lead Veterinary Surgeon to support the effective delivery of veterinary services within the hospital.
Support the implementation of veterinary treatment plans and ensure appropriate nursing care is provided in accordance with veterinary direction and Trust protocols.
Maintain the veterinary room, clinical areas and equipment to a high standard, ensuring they are clean, organised and ready for use.
Prepare, clean, package and autoclave surgical instruments and kits as required.
Ensure veterinary equipment is appropriately maintained and serviced
Maintain appropriate temperature monitoring and other clinical checks in accordance with relevant protocols.

Medicines, Stock & Clinical Resources

Maintain appropriate stocks of veterinary medicines, consumables and clinical supplies, ensuring essential items are available when required.
Order veterinary medicines and consumables through approved suppliers in accordance with Trust procedures and delegated authority.
Receive and process veterinary orders, including checking deliveries, recording batch numbers and maintaining appropriate documentation.
Maintain appropriate records relating to veterinary medicines and controlled clinical supplies.
Monitor and maintain clinical waste, sharps and medication disposal arrangements in accordance with relevant requirements.

Training & Support for the Animal-Care Team

Work alongside the veterinary surgeon and management team to train animal-care staff in the safe administration of medications and the appropriate use of veterinary SOPs.
Provide training and refresher support to new, seasonal and existing staff within agreed timescales.
Promote good clinical practice and consistency across the animal-care team.
Provide guidance and support to staff in relation to patient care within the limits of the RVN role and agreed Trust protocols.

Compliance, Records & Clinical Standards

Maintain accurate, timely and appropriate clinical and veterinary records.
Ensure all veterinary nursing activities are undertaken in accordance with Trust policies, SOPs and relevant legislation.
Maintain Radiation Protection Supervisor (RPS) status, ensuring required training remains up to date and overseeing radiation protection and monitoring within the department.
Monitor TB testing requirements and maintain appropriate records.
Support the Trust in maintaining high standards of biosecurity, hygiene, infection control and clinical governance.
Ensure that any concerns relating to animal welfare, clinical care, health and safety or compliance are raised promptly with the appropriate manager or veterinary surgeon.

Wider Contribution to the Hospital

Work collaboratively with the Chief Executive of Wildlife Care & Practice, Lead Veterinary Surgeon and wider animal-care team to contribute to the effective day-to-day running of the hospital.
Assist with the identification and movement of animals through the hospital.
Follow all Trust policies, procedures and protocols and contribute to their ongoing development where appropriate.
Contribute to educational content for the Trust's website and social media as required.
Work with the media, including radio and television, when requested and appropriate.
Undertake other duties within the scope and capability of the role as reasonably required to meet the changing needs of the Trust.
