Full job description

Senior Architectural Technologist

North West | Fit-Out & Refurbishment | Up to £2.5m Projects

Are you an experienced Architectural Technologist looking for a role where you can take real ownership of projects and be part of a close-knit contractor where design is genuinely valued?

I’m working with a successful North West building contractor delivering fit-out and refurbishment schemes across healthcare, mental healthcare, education and commercial environments.

With projects ranging from £5,000 to £2.5m, often within complex live and occupied environments, they are looking for a Senior Architectural Technologist to strengthen their pre-construction and design capability.

This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys getting into the technical detail, solving problems and seeing their designs develop from feasibility and tender stage right through to construction and handover.

The Role

Working as a key member of the pre-construction team, you’ll take responsibility for producing, developing and coordinating technical design information across a varied portfolio of refurbishment and fit-out projects.

You’ll work closely with clients, consultants, specialist subcontractors and site teams, ensuring designs are compliant, buildable and commercially practical.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Producing and reviewing technical drawings, layouts, elevations, sections, details, specifications and schedules
  • Managing technical design packages from feasibility through to construction
  • Ensuring designs comply with Building Regulations and relevant Approved Documents
  • Coordinating healthcare design requirements, including relevant HBNs and HTMs
  • Supporting projects within mental healthcare environments, considering security, robustness, patient wellbeing and specialist requirements
  • Reviewing education schemes against applicable DfE standards and Building Bulletins
  • Developing technical solutions for commercial office fit-out projects
  • Coordinating multidisciplinary design information with consultants and specialist subcontractors
  • Preparing and managing planning and Building Control information
  • Managing design programmes, information release schedules and drawing registers
  • Reviewing designs for buildability and resolving technical challenges with site and commercial teams
  • Attending site and design meetings throughout project delivery
  • Supporting design change control and technical queries
  • Coordinating record drawings and technical information for project handover
  • Mentoring colleagues and helping improve internal design standards, templates and processes

What We’re Looking For

You’ll ideally be an experienced Architectural Technologist who is comfortable taking ownership of technical design rather than simply producing drawings.

You should have:

  • Degree, HNC/HND or equivalent qualification in Architectural Technology or a related discipline
  • Strong experience delivering technical design packages for refurbishment, fit-out or construction projects
  • Excellent CAD and construction detailing capability
  • Strong working knowledge of Building Regulations
  • Experience of coordinating multiple consultants and specialist subcontractors
  • A good understanding of existing buildings and the challenges associated with refurbishment
  • Strong technical problem-solving skills
  • The confidence to challenge designs and identify potential compliance or buildability issues
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills
  • The ability to manage multiple projects and competing deadlines

Healthcare and/or education experience would be particularly valuable, along with knowledge of HBNs, HTMs and DfE design requirements.

Revit/BIM experience and CIAT membership or progression towards chartership would also be advantageous.

Why Join?

This isn’t a large corporate environment where you’ll become another number.

You’ll be joining a supportive, collaborative and genuinely close-knit team that takes pride in delivering a better construction experience for its clients, supply chain and employees.

The business has created a culture where people are trusted to do their jobs, encouraged to develop and can maintain a genuine work/life balance.

Package & Benefits

  • Competitive salary
  • 33 days' holiday including Bank Holidays
  • Pension scheme
  • Medicash scheme
  • Excellent opportunities for professional development
  • Varied projects across the North West
  • Supportive, collaborative working environment

If you’re a Senior Architectural Technologist looking for greater project ownership, varied technical work and the opportunity to join a contractor with a refreshing approach to its people and projects, I’d love to hear from you.
