Job summary
We are looking for a self-motivated, hardworking individual to work with and advise scientists across the CBR Programme and to collaborate with external organisations.
You will be involved in research projects ranging from fundamental through to applied research.
In addition to the research remit, the post will also support both the development and maintenance of an operational framework, which includes participation in proficiency test exercises and supporting operational sample analysis and attribution.

Job description
We require a senior computational biologist to support the development of genomic and metagenomic analysis pipelines and methods to identify and characterise high consequence pathogens. This will include addressing research challenges posed by current and emerging pathogens, as well as implementing improvements to our current methods.
In this role you will support research activities across various projects within the Science and Technology (S&T) team. You will be designing and applying bioinformatics pipelines to analyse sequence data from various experimental platforms.
You will also develop bioinformatics methods for implementation into in service software.

Person specification
You will have a consistent track record of research outcomes in computational biology as well as having experience of working within scientific research environment.
You will have experience in presenting complex scientific findings to diverse audiences along with having experience with computational biology/bioinformatics tools.

Sifting will take place week commencing 6th July with interviews to held face to face at Dstl Porton Down week commencing 20th July.
Your interview will consist of behavioural and technical competency-based questions. You will also be required to deliver a 10-minute presentation on the following topic: Please give an example of how you have assured that your computational biology outputs are reliable and high quality? Where suitable give examples of tools, processes and checks used.
Feedback will only be provided if you attend an interview or assessment.
