Beverage Applications Technologist

What You’ll Be Doing

The purpose of the ApplicationsTechnologist role is to support the development and application of Plant-Ex’s flavour, colour and extract ingredients across a range of food and beverage applications.

The role will initially provide broad applications experience, supporting product trials, sample preparation, application recipe development and testing of ingredients in different formulations. Over time, the role will develop a greater focus on beverage applications, building technical knowledge and practical experience across a range of beverage categories.

Working under the guidance of the Applications Manager, the Applications Technologist will work closely with the NPD, Sales and Technical teams to support customer projects, product development and the evaluation of new and existing ingredients.

  • Support the testing and application of flavours, colours and extracts across a range of food and beverage products, with the opportunity to develop specialist knowledge in beverages.
  • Prepare samples and application trials to demonstrate the performance of Plant-Ex ingredients in different product formulations.
  • Work with the Applications Manager and NPD team to test new flavours, colours and extracts and understand their performance in different applications.
  • Support customer sample and project requests by selecting appropriate products and preparing application samples.
  • Develop and record application recipes, trial results and product information to build and maintain Plant-Ex’s application knowledge and product library.
  • Assist with customer projects by carrying out trials and providing clear information and results to the Applications Manager, Sales and NPD teams.
  • Work with colleagues across Plant-Ex’s UK, Turkey, Poland and USA operations to share product and application knowledge.
  • Support the development of new and innovative flavour concepts in line with food and beverage trends.
  • Participate in sensory and organoleptic panels for flavours, colours and extracts.
  • Attend customer visits and presentations where appropriate, developing confidence in communicating technical information to customers.
  • Keep up to date with relevant food and beverage trends and develop an understanding of how these can be applied to Plant-Ex products.
  • Manage day-to-day tasks and prioritise work effectively, with support and direction from the Applications Manager.

The Ideal Candidate

This is an exciting opportunity for a technical professional with experience in the food or beverage industry to take their next career step within a growing SME. Experience with flavours, colours or natural ingredients would be highly advantageous.

We’re looking for someone who has:

· Previous technical experience within the food or beverage industry

· A good understanding of food and beverage formulation and production at industrial scale

· Strong attention to detail

· A creative, solutions-focussed approach and a willingness to embrace new technologies and industry trends

· Strong written and verbal communication skills, with a good proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel and PowerPoint

· The ability to work confidently both independently and collaboratively as part of a team
