Full job description
Research Fellow: SECURE Study
We seek to appoint two academic fellows (0.2 WTE), specifically to support working on the SECURE study, for a period of 6 months with a start date of September 2026 onwards.
This post is suitable for senior anaesthesia/ICM trainees seeking with experience of running a resident research network and participating in national service evaluation projects.
This post is based in the Bristol Heart Institute, Bristol NHS Foundation Trust . Funding is via the Association of Anaesthetists.
The Bristol Heart Institute is a large regional cardiac centre offering adult cardiac surgery, ACHD surgery, a developing major aortic service, as well as an extensive cardiac Cath lab service including rapidly expanding TAVI and edge to edge valve repair programmes.
The post does not include time for clinical experience; however, successful applicants will be supported in gaining clinical experience and other academic experience if desired.
This post does not have educational approval from the Postgraduate Dean and does not carry a National Training Number.
Where equivalent qualifications or experience are being offered, it is essential that candidates provide confirmation of this from the relevant College or Faculty in the United Kingdom and attach confirmation to your application.
Please note that GMC registration (with a licence to practice) and right to work in the UK are essential for this role. Successful applicants will already have GMC registration.
This post in Adult Cardiac Anaesthesia and Critical Care involves a flexible commitment working on data analysis for the SECURE study. There is no clinical or on-call commitment attached to this post. Fellows will be supported to pursue other academic, clinical and education opportunities within the department if appropriate.
Bristol NHS Foundation Trust brings together more than 28,000 staff to deliver over 160 clinical services across thirteen hospital locations, operating from three main sites at Southmead, Bristol city centre and Weston.
With an annual turnover of £2.3 billion, we are now one of the largest NHS trusts in the United Kingdom. Our hospitals are spread across Bristol and Weston, join us and you can enjoy the very best of both worlds; city living within a stone’s throw of the countryside or beside the seaside, both with easy access to all that the South West has to offer.
Bristol NHS Foundation Trust values all people as individuals. As an equal opportunities employer actively working towards a diverse workforce we aim to recruit and retain a workforce which represents the rich diversity of the local population at all levels and are committed to designing our services around the needs of individual patients and those around them. Anonymous information will be used from your application in order to ensure we’re meeting our pledge.
Please see the attached Job Description and Person Specifications for further details of this position.
