About Molecular Titans

Molecular Titans is a deep-tech chemistry spin-out from the University of Bradford. Its patented Artemis platform captures and identifies infectious organisms directly from a sample, without the delay of laboratory culture - addressing a problem shared across clinical diagnostics, food safety and industrial contamination control where decisions are currently held up waiting for lab results.

Built on over two decades of academic research and protected by two international patent families, Artemis is now validated across four active industrial pilots spanning biofilm disruption, food safety, point-of-care diagnostics and international medical aid. The company is transitioning from a grant-funded research platform to a commercial B2B business, selling Artemis directly and licensing it into higher-value regulated medical technologies.

Having secured over £5.5 million in academic grant funding and completed a year of structured market discovery, Molecular Titans is now raising a Seed round to scale manufacture, convert its pilots into commercial supply and licensing agreements and build the team required for growth.

The Role

Molecular Titans is seeking a Lead Scientist to become the primary day-to-day technical operator within Molecular Titans, delivering experimental programmes, validation studies and product development activities.

The lead scientist will work closely with the founding team to deliver active industrial pilots with the potential of delivering future licensing and supply agreements. This is an active, engaged role suited to someone with direct experience in materials science and/or microbiology, whose role will span a broad technical portfolio including developing medical diagnostics, life-science tools, industrial biotech or advanced materials technologies into B2B markets.

Key Responsibilities

Technical Delivery

• Execute company R&D programmes; perform laboratory experimentation, generate validation datasets, develop and optimise Artemis-based products and processes
• Translate scientific findings into commercial product opportunities. Contribute to manufacturing readiness, process optimisation and technology transfer activities
• Assist in supervision, training and development of research assistants and future technical team members.

Laboratory Operations

• Maintain safe laboratory practices. Operate and maintain equipment, maintain consumables and stock, prepare risk-assessment and documentation.
• Design experiments, analyse data, prepare technical reports and maintain detailed experimental records.
• Own laboratory records, data integrity and traceable experimental documentation. Support scale-up of Artemis manufacture and transfer of laboratory methods into repeatable production processes.
• Contribute to document-control systems, supporting the development of SOPs and support quality-system implementation. Ensure all work is appropriately recorded and traceable

Project Delivery

• Deliver technical milestones to agreed timelines. Support customer and partner projects and contribute to grant-funded activities.
• Support onboarding of future technical hires, help build a strong technical culture.
• Support quality control of materials, processes and experimental outputs.

Stakeholder Management

• Assist the CEO and CSO in prioritising technical activities against commercial objectives and available resources
• Support technical discussions with customers, collaborators and prospective partners
• Engage with external partners. Contribute to project proposals and submission to third parties. Take leadership role visible to external stakeholders when opportunity is provided.

Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate will possess most of the following skills, attributes and experiences:

• PhD (or equivalent experience) in Chemistry, polymer science, materials science, biotechnology or related discipline.
• Strong experimental capability, experience of operating independently in laboratory environments.
• Experience of operating within polymers, materials or microbiology laboratories, ideally with industrial R&D projects. Ability to work across interdisciplinary disciplines and integrate information from multiple technical domains.
• Experience supporting customer, partner or grant-funded programmes.
• Excellent record keeping and organisational skills.
• Exposure to regulated, quality-controlled or customer-facing technical environments would be advantageous.
• A practical, delivery orientated mindset
• Comfortable working within an early-stage company environment.
• Experience working under quality systems or SOP-driven environments.
