About us
The Department of Medical Physics and Biomedical Engineering at UCL is one of the UK’s largest and most diverse departments. We are proud to host internationally renowned research groups across multiple sites, with staff and students working at the intersection of physics, engineering, medicine, physiology, computer science, and mathematics.
As a global leader in Medical Physics and Biomedical Engineering research and education, our department fosters close collaborations with clinicians, practitioners, and scientists in major teaching hospitals. This enables our researchers to remain at the forefront of healthcare engineering and allows our students to learn about the latest innovations directly from leading experts in the field.
Our mission is to advance cutting-edge research that develops new technologies and methods for diagnosing, treating, and managing diseases through medical imaging, physiological monitoring, and implantable devices. Additionally, we offer a wide range of undergraduate and postgraduate degree programs.
The department holds an Athena Swan Bronze Award, recognizing our ongoing commitment to supporting and advancing women’s careers in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics).
