Overview

We are looking for a reliable and hardworking individual to join our team in a multi-functional role combining medical courier duties and medical laboratory assistant (MLA) work.

This is a full-time position with flexible working hours, as collections take place throughout the week, including mornings, evenings, and weekends. When courier duties are not being carried out, the successful candidate will work within the laboratory, supporting the day-to-day workflow and assisting the laboratory team.

The role requires flexibility, reliability, and the ability to work within a fast-paced medical laboratory environment.

About PathTech Laboratories

PathTech Laboratories is a medical laboratory and healthcare support provider specialising in histology and diagnostic services. We work closely with clinics and healthcare professionals to ensure medical specimens are handled, processed, and transported efficiently whilst maintaining the highest standards of quality, compliance, and patient care.

Key Responsibilities

Medical Courier Duties

Carry out scheduled collections from clinics and healthcare providers.

Transport medical specimens safely and efficiently to the laboratory.

Undertake courier collections using a motorcycle where required.

Follow planned collection routes and ensure timely deliveries.

Handle sensitive medical samples in accordance with laboratory and healthcare compliance standards.

Maintain accurate records of collections where required.

Represent PathTech Laboratories professionally when attending clinics and healthcare providers.

Laboratory (MLA) Duties

Assist with booking in patient specimens.

Support the day-to-day laboratory workflow.

Prepare and handle samples under supervision where required.

Assist Biomedical Scientists and laboratory staff with routine operational tasks.

Label, organise and process specimens accurately.

Maintain a safe, organised and compliant laboratory environment.

Follow laboratory quality, health and safety, and infection control procedures at all times.

Working Hours

Full-time position.

40 paid hours per week, comprising 37.5 working hours and a paid 2.5-hour lunch break.

Flexible working hours to accommodate clinic collection schedules.

Collections are primarily undertaken during morning and evening rush-hour periods, when clinics are opening or closing.

Weekend collections are required on a rota basis.

A weekly rota is issued one week in advance, allowing staff to plan their working week.

Requirements

Full UK driving licence.

Full UK motorcycle licence and ability to confidently and safely ride a motorcycle for courier collections.

Reliable, punctual and well organised.

Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Willingness to undertake both courier and laboratory duties.

Good communication and interpersonal skills.

Professional attitude and strong attention to detail.

Previous experience within healthcare, a laboratory, or a courier role is advantageous but not essential, as full training will be provided.

Pay & Benefits

Competitive salary, dependent on experience.

28 days' annual leave, inclusive of bank holidays.

If using your own vehicle for collections, business travel expenses will be reimbursed.

Depending on operational requirements and the volume of courier collections, a company vehicle may be provided by agreement.

Full training and ongoing support.

Opportunity to gain valuable experience within a specialist histology and diagnostic laboratory.

Friendly and supportive working environment with opportunities to develop new skills.

Why Join PathTech Laboratories?

At PathTech Laboratories, you will play an important role in ensuring medical specimens are transported and processed safely and efficiently, directly supporting patient care.
