Medical Receptionist

Location: Manor Brook Medical Centre, Blackheath

About Us

Manor Brook Medical Centre is a friendly, well-established GP practice serving approximately 12,000 patients in Blackheath. Our clinical team includes 4 GP Partners, 4 Salaried GPs, Practice Nurses, a Healthcare Assistant, a Nursing Associate, and GP Registrars (ST1 and ST3). We are committed to providing high-quality patient care in a supportive and welcoming environment.

About the Role

As the first point of contact for our patients, you will play a vital role in delivering excellent customer service and ensuring patients receive the right care at the right time. You will be responsible for welcoming patients, managing appointments, handling enquiries, and providing administrative support to the wider practice team.

Working Hours

11.5 hours per week

  • Monday: 4:00pm - 6:30pm (2.5 hours)
  • Tuesday: 8:00am - 5:30pm (30-minute unpaid lunch break; 9 paid hours)

This is a permanent part-time position. Flexibility to provide occasional additional cover for annual leave or sickness would be advantageous.

Key Responsibilities

  • Welcome patients and visitors, providing a professional and friendly reception service.
  • Answer telephone calls, respond to patient enquiries, and direct calls appropriately.
  • Book, amend and cancel appointments using the practice appointment system.
  • Signpost patients to the most appropriate service, including Pharmacy First, dentists, optometrists and other NHS services.
  • Process prescription requests and accurately record messages for clinicians.
  • Manage the reception inbox, responding to and actioning emails.
  • Process referrals via e-RS and email.
  • Scan, file and process clinical correspondence using EMIS and Docman.
  • Register new patients and assist with registration documentation.
  • Handle payments for private services and issue receipts where required.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality and comply with all practice policies and procedures.
  • Undertake other administrative duties appropriate to the role as required.

What We're Looking For

We're looking for someone who is:

  • Friendly, approachable and professional.
  • An excellent communicator with strong customer service skills.
  • Organised and able to prioritise a busy workload.
  • Confident using computers and learning new systems (EMIS and Docman experience is desirable but not essential as training will be provided).
  • Able to remain calm under pressure and multitask effectively.
  • A team player with a positive attitude and a good sense of humour.
  • Committed to maintaining strict patient confidentiality.

This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working with people in a fast-paced healthcare environment and takes pride in delivering outstanding patient care. Previous experience in a GP practice or NHS setting is desirable but not essential for the right candidate.

Pay: £13.08 per hour

Benefits:

  • Free parking
  • On-site parking
