Up to £100 per day | Full-Time | Long-Term | September Start

Axcis are working with a large and inclusive primary school in Tower Hamlets who are seeking an Early Years SEND Teaching Assistant to join their alternative provision on a full-time, long-term basis from September.

The successful candidate will support Early Years pupils who require a smaller, structured and highly supportive learning environment. You will help children develop their early communication, emotional-regulation, interaction and independence skills through practical and play-based activities.

This role would suit an experienced SEND Teaching Assistant, Early Years Practitioner or Nursery Assistant who understands child development and can provide patient, consistent support to children with additional needs. The school is based in Bow and is accessible from Bromley-by-Bow, Mile End, Poplar, Stepney, Stratford and surrounding areas.

About the Role:

You will work within the school's alternative provision, supporting pupils through structured activities, individual interventions and carefully planned play.
Your responsibilities will include:

  • Supporting Early Years pupils with a range of SEND needs
  • Providing individual and small-group learning support
  • Encouraging communication, interaction and early language development
  • Supporting children through play-based and sensory activities
  • Using visual timetables, simple language and predictable routines
  • Helping pupils manage transitions and changes in activity
  • Supporting emotional regulation and positive behaviour
  • Encouraging independence with everyday classroom routines
  • Preparing resources and adapting activities around individual needs
  • Working closely with the class teacher, SENCO and Early Years team
  • Recording progress and relevant observations
  • Maintaining strong safeguarding and professional standards

Requirements:

  • Previous experience as a SEND Teaching Assistant, Early Years Practitioner, Nursery Assistant or Learning Support Assistant
  • Experience supporting children within EYFS
  • Understanding of early childhood development
  • Experience supporting autism, communication needs or developmental delay is highly desirable
  • Confidence using visual resources and structured routines
  • A patient, nurturing and consistent approach
  • Ability to engage children through play and practical activities
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • Understanding of safeguarding and professional boundaries
  • A relevant Early Years or Teaching Assistant qualification is desirable
  • Full-time availability from September
  • Commitment to a long-term position

This is an excellent opportunity to join a welcoming primary school where inclusion, positive relationships and individual progress are central to the school's approach. If you have Early Years and SEND experience and would enjoy supporting children within a specialist alternative provision, apply today for this SEND Teaching Assistant role in Tower Hamlets.
