Full job description
Project Coordinator – Building & Home Improvements
Salary: £35,000 per annum
Hours: Monday to Friday, with some flexibility
Location: Office-based
Employment Type: Permanent
Career Progression: Opportunities for future development
The Opportunity
We are recruiting a practical, organised and confident Project Coordinator to join an established business specialising in home improvements, conservatories, windows, doors and residential building projects.
This is a hands-on coordination role, ideally suited to someone who understands how building projects operate, knows how to deal with tradespeople and subcontractors, and can confidently keep multiple jobs progressing from start to finish.
We are particularly interested in someone who has previously worked within the building or home improvement industry, perhaps as a tradesperson, site supervisor, installation coordinator or project coordinator, and who now enjoys, or would welcome, a predominantly office-based position.
You will work closely with the Site Manager, helping to organise trades, monitor progress, communicate with customers and ensure that projects are completed efficiently and to the required standard.
This is not simply an administration role. We need someone with practical industry knowledge, a confident approach and the ability to take ownership of situations, chase progress and ensure that jobs get finished.
Key Responsibilities
- Coordinate the day-to-day scheduling of tradespeople and subcontractors across multiple residential building and home improvement projects.
- Organise electricians, plasterers, builders, installers and other trades, ensuring they are booked for the correct stages of each project.
- Liaise with the Site Manager to monitor progress, identify outstanding work and keep projects moving towards completion.
- Contact tradespeople and subcontractors regularly to check progress, confirm attendance and ensure agreed work is being completed.
- Arrange building control inspections and liaise with building inspectors, ensuring the necessary inspections are booked at the appropriate stages.
- Communicate with customers regarding installation dates, progress updates, delays and changes to work schedules.
- Manage changes caused by adverse weather, material delays or unexpected site issues, reorganising trades and keeping everyone informed.
- Coordinate follow-up visits for snagging, remedial works and outstanding items, ensuring subcontractors return to complete or correct work where necessary.
- Understand the sequence of building works and ensure the appropriate trades are scheduled in the correct order.
- Liaise with suppliers regarding materials, deliveries, availability and any issues affecting project progress.
- Monitor jobs approaching completion, checking with tradespeople and the Site Manager that outstanding work is being addressed.
- Maintain clear communication between customers, suppliers, subcontractors and the internal team.
- Take a proactive approach to resolving problems, chasing outstanding actions and ensuring commitments are followed through.
- Support the Site Manager with the organisation and coordination of ongoing projects.
Skills & Experience Required
- Previous experience within residential building, home improvements, conservatories, windows, doors, extensions or a closely related construction environment.
- A good practical understanding of how building projects progress, including the sequence and coordination of different trades.
- Confident dealing with electricians, plasterers, builders, installers and subcontractors.
- Familiarity with building control procedures and arranging inspections would be highly advantageous.
- An understanding of building works, including electrical installations, plastering, structural alterations and finishing trades.
- Strong organisational skills, with the ability to coordinate several projects and tradespeople simultaneously.
- A confident and assertive communication style, with the ability to chase progress, address delays and hold subcontractors accountable.
- Good customer service skills, particularly when explaining changes, delays or unexpected issues.
- Ability to anticipate problems, reorganise schedules and find practical solutions.
- Comfortable working closely with a Site Manager while taking responsibility for day-to-day coordination.
- Good computer literacy and the ability to maintain schedules, records and customer communications.
- Surveying experience would be advantageous but is not essential.
The Ideal Candidate
We are looking for someone who understands the realities of residential building and home improvement projects.
You may currently be working as a Project Coordinator, Installation Coordinator, Contracts Coordinator, Site Supervisor, Assistant Site Manager or in a similar operational role.
Equally, you may have spent several years working on the tools, perhaps within building, conservatory installation, window and door installation or another relevant trade, and now be looking to move into an office-based position where your practical knowledge can be put to good use.
The important thing is that you understand how a job comes together.
You will know when an electrician needs to attend, when plastering can begin, why certain stages must be completed before others and how delays can affect the rest of the schedule.
You will be comfortable picking up the phone to a subcontractor, finding out why a job hasn't been completed, arranging a return visit or making sure that outstanding work is finished.
You will also understand the importance of keeping customers informed, particularly when schedules change, work is delayed by weather or unexpected problems arise.
We need someone with a strong personality, good common sense and the confidence to deal with experienced tradespeople. Someone who is approachable and professional but equally capable of being firm when necessary.
Above all, you will be a natural organiser who takes pride in seeing projects completed properly, on time and with minimal disruption.
Working Hours & Package
- £35,000 per annum.
- Monday to Friday working week.
- Predominantly office-based.
- Some flexibility in working hours.
- Varied role supporting the Site Manager and coordinating multiple projects.
- Opportunity for increased responsibility and career progression.
Career Development
This is an excellent opportunity for someone who wants to build a longer-term career within project coordination and operations.
The successful candidate will have the opportunity to develop their responsibilities, become an integral part of the operational team and potentially progress into a more senior project management or operational position.
Apply
If you have practical experience within residential building, conservatories, windows, doors or home improvements, understand how to coordinate tradespeople and enjoy making sure projects run smoothly, we would be interested in hearing from you.
All applications will be treated in the strictest confidence.
Pay: From £35,000.00 per year
Work Location: In person
