Full job description
£923 per 5-day live-in shift | 5 days on, 9 days off | Canterbury
5 days on. 9 days off. One genuinely meaningful role.
We’re looking for an experienced Live-In Care Assistant to join a small team supporting a young woman with complex learning disabilities and autism in her family home in Canterbury.
This is a unique opportunity to build a genuine relationship with one person while supporting her as she settles into a newly built annex and develops her independence, routines and confidence.
You’ll work 5 days and nights, followed by 9 days off, giving you substantial time away from work between shifts.
About the person you’ll support
She’s a warm and affectionate young woman with complex learning disabilities, autism and epilepsy.
She’s moving into a newly built annex within her family home, and your role will be to provide consistency, reassurance and support as she becomes comfortable in her new environment.
Getting to know her interests and communication style will be an important part of the role.
You might accompany her to college or into the community, go for a walk, watch a favourite DVD, listen to music, prepare meals together or support her with her daily routines.
You’ll also receive training in Gestalt Language Processing to help you understand and support her individual communication approach.
What you’ll be doing
Your role will include:
· Supporting with personal care and medication
· Preparing meals and supporting daily routines
· Accompanying her to college and community activities
· Supporting walks, outings and activities she enjoys
· Creating a calm, structured and predictable environment
· Providing reassurance during periods of heightened emotion or sensory stimulation
· Supporting communication and independence
· Working closely with the family and Thrive team
· Building a trusting relationship through consistency and continuity
This is a complex support package, and there may be times when the environment is busy or noisy.
The right person will be calm and resilient, able to remain reassuring when things become challenging and comfortable providing consistent support without taking over.
The working pattern
5 days on, followed by 9 days off
You will live in during your five-day shift, including sleeping nights.
Pay: £923 per 5-day live-in shift
This is an employed role with a proper employment contract, rather than self-employed live-in work. There is also the option to take on more shifts with a small number of other people we support on your days off.
What you get with Thrive
We believe supporting people well starts with supporting our own team properly.
You’ll receive:
· £923 per 5-day live-in shift
· Paid annual leave
· Paid travel time when travelling for work
· 55p per mile mileage allowance
· Paid training
· Paid development time
· Company pension
· Sick pay
· Employee Assistance Programme
· Referral programme
· A supportive management team
· Consistent work with a small, dedicated team
Who we’re looking for
This role would suit someone who genuinely enjoys getting to know one person well and helping them feel safe, confident and independent.
You’ll need to be:
· Experienced supporting people with autism and complex needs
· Patient, calm and attentive
· Comfortable creating predictable routines
· Warm and reassuring while maintaining professional boundaries
· Resilient and able to remain calm during challenging situations
· Comfortable working as part of a small, consistent team
· A confident driver with your own vehicle
· Committed to supporting someone’s independence rather than doing everything for them
Experience supporting people with complex learning disabilities and autism is essential.
You must also have:
· A full UK driving licence
· Access to your own vehicle
· The right to work in the UK
· An Enhanced DBS for working with adults, or be willing to obtain one
An NVQ Level 2 in Health & Social Care, or equivalent, is required.
Why Thrive?
At Thrive Homecare, we want the people we support to Live Life In Colour.
For this role, that means helping someone build confidence in her new home, stay connected with her community and continue enjoying the things that matter to her.
For you, it means being part of a small team where your contribution is recognised, your development is supported and you have the time to build a relationship that really matters.
If you’re an experienced support worker or Care Assistant looking for something different from a traditional care role, we’d love to hear from you.
