Café Manager – Montezuma's Chocolate, Chester

We're looking for a passionate, energetic and hands-on Café Manager to lead our café and retail team in our Chester store. This is an exciting opportunity for someone who loves hospitality, exceptional customer service and developing great teams.

As Café Manager, you'll be responsible for creating an outstanding experience for every customer, whether they're enjoying a coffee, choosing the perfect chocolates or simply stopping by for a treat. You'll lead from the front, driving sales, maintaining exceptional standards and ensuring both the café and retail space operate smoothly every day.

What You'll Do

Customer Experience

  • Deliver exceptional customer service, ensuring every visit feels welcoming and memorable.
  • Create a customer-first culture where every team member is passionate about delivering great hospitality.
  • Handle customer feedback positively, turning insights into improvements.
  • Ensure every drink, chocolate and interaction reflects the Montezuma's brand.

Team Leadership

  • Lead, motivate and develop a high-performing café and retail team.
  • Coach and support team members through regular feedback and performance conversations.
  • Create rotas that balance excellent customer service with labour budgets.
  • Foster a positive, fun and supportive working environment.
  • Identify training opportunities and help your team grow their skills.

Café Operations

  • Oversee the day-to-day running of the café, ensuring consistently high standards.
  • Ensure all drinks are prepared to company recipes and presentation standards.
  • Train and develop the team to confident Barista level.
  • Maintain excellent food hygiene, cleanliness and equipment care.
  • Ensure compliance with all food safety, health and safety, and licensing requirements where applicable.

Retail & Store Operations

  • Maintain outstanding presentation across both the café and retail areas.
  • Ensure smooth daily operations in line with company standards.
  • Support visual merchandising and seasonal displays.
  • Maintain a safe, clean and welcoming environment for customers and colleagues.

Commercial Focus

  • Monitor sales performance and identify opportunities to grow revenue.
  • Control costs, manage budgets and minimise waste.
  • Review café and retail performance, providing regular feedback and reporting.
  • Drive initiatives that improve profitability while maintaining an exceptional customer experience.

Stock Management

  • Manage ordering, deliveries, stock rotation and inventory across café and retail products.
  • Complete regular stock takes and maintain accurate records.
  • Ensure stock is stored safely and efficiently, following food safety standards where required.

About You

We're looking for someone who brings energy, positivity and a genuine passion for hospitality.

You'll have:

  • Previous experience managing a café, coffee shop, restaurant or hospitality venue.
  • Leadership experience with the ability to inspire, coach and develop a successful team.
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills.
  • A hands-on approach and willingness to lead by example.
  • Strong commercial awareness with experience managing sales, budgets and labour costs.
  • Knowledge of food safety, hygiene and HACCP principles.
  • Experience in barista training or speciality coffee is desirable.
  • Retail management experience would be advantageous but isn't essential.
