Front of House / Member Services Team Member
Part-Time – Approx. 25 Hours Per Week
Pay: From £12.71 per hour
Aptitude Health & Fitness – Farndon, Chester
About Aptitude
Aptitude Health & Fitness is a friendly, independent health, fitness and wellbeing facility based in Farndon, Chester.
Since opening in 2020, we've grown into one of the area's leading independent fitness facilities, with a thriving membership community, extensive gym, busy class timetable, café and a growing range of health and wellbeing services.
Our members are at the heart of everything we do, and we're now looking for a friendly, positive and people-focused person to join our Front of House & Member Services team.
About the Role
This role is all about people and great service.
You'll be one of the first faces our members and guests see when they arrive and one of the last when they leave.
We're looking for someone who genuinely enjoys talking to people, remembers names, builds relationships and wants everyone who walks through our doors to have a great experience.
The position combines Front of House, member services and café service, alongside helping us maintain the high standards we expect throughout the facility.
We're not necessarily looking for someone with years of gym experience. Personality, attitude, reliability and a willingness to get stuck in are far more important to us.
If you're naturally friendly, confident and approachable and enjoy being around people, you could be exactly who we're looking for.
Front of House & Member Services
A major part of your role will be looking after our members and guests and helping create the welcoming atmosphere Aptitude is known for.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Giving every member and visitor a warm and friendly welcome
- Getting to know our members and building genuine relationships
- Creating a positive experience from the moment someone walks through the door
- Answering member questions and providing excellent customer service
- Answering telephone calls, emails and enquiries
- Helping prospective members and explaining our membership options
- Managing bookings and appointments
- Assisting with memberships and account administration
- Processing payments
- Promoting events, services and activities happening at Aptitude
- Handling member feedback or concerns in a friendly and professional manner
- Supporting the wider team with the day-to-day running of the facility
Café Service
Our café is a big part of the Front of House role and the overall Aptitude experience.
You'll regularly be preparing and serving food and drinks to our members, guests and visitors throughout your shift.
Responsibilities will include:
- Preparing and serving coffees and other hot and cold drinks
- Preparing and serving food, snacks and other café items
- Taking orders and processing payments
- Providing friendly and efficient café service
- Keeping café counters, equipment and seating areas clean and presentable
- Cleaning coffee and food preparation equipment
- Restocking products and monitoring stock levels
- Following food hygiene and safety procedures
- Creating a welcoming café environment where members and guests enjoy spending time
Previous café, barista or hospitality experience would be advantageous, but isn't essential.
Full training will be provided for the right person.
Cleaning & Facility Standards
Maintaining a clean, tidy and welcoming facility is an important part of this position.
Everyone at Aptitude contributes to keeping the facility looking its best.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Keeping Front of House and reception areas clean and organised
- Cleaning and maintaining the café and seating areas
- Checking and cleaning communal areas
- Checking changing rooms and toilets throughout your shift
- Emptying bins and restocking supplies
- General cleaning and tidying as required
- Regularly walking the facility and dealing with anything that needs attention
- Reporting maintenance or equipment issues to management
We're looking for someone who takes genuine pride in their workplace and is prepared to get stuck in.
If you see something that needs cleaning, tidying or dealing with, we'd expect you to take the initiative rather than wait to be asked.
Regular Working Hours
The regular working pattern for this position will be:
Monday: 05:45 – 13:15
Wednesday: 16:00 – 21:00
Thursday: 13:00 – 21:00
Friday: 09:00 – 13:15
Approximately 25 hours per week.
Applicants should ensure they can regularly commit to these shifts before applying.
Official Start Date – 15 September 2026
The successful candidate will officially take over the position from 15 September 2026, replacing an existing member of our Front of House & Member Services team.
However, we want the successful candidate to be fully comfortable and confident in the role before taking over their regular shifts.
Minimum Two Weeks of Fully Paid Training
We would therefore like the successful candidate to complete at least two weeks of fully paid training and handover prior to 15 September 2026.
All training and handover hours will be paid at the normal hourly rate.
During this period, you'll work alongside our existing team and receive hands-on training covering:
- Front of House and member service
- Getting to know our members and the Aptitude community
- Memberships, bookings and administration
- Our systems and procedures
- Café service
- Coffee preparation and equipment
- Food preparation and service
- Opening and closing procedures
- Cleaning and facility standards
- General day-to-day operations
Applicants should therefore ideally be available to begin paid training from late August / early September 2026.
Flexibility
Although the hours listed above will be your regular working pattern, flexibility is important to us.
From time to time, there will be opportunities for additional hours and we may need support with:
- Team holidays
- Sickness cover
- Events
- Busy periods
- Occasional weekend or alternative shifts
We're therefore particularly interested in someone who has some flexibility outside their regular contracted hours and is willing to support the wider team when required.
Reliable Transport is Essential
Due to our location and the early morning and evening nature of the shifts, reliable transport is essential for this position.
Applicants must be able to reliably commute to our facility in Farndon for all scheduled shifts.
In particular, you must be able to arrive and be ready to start work at 05:45 on Mondays.
Please consider this carefully before applying.
Who We're Looking For
Above everything else, we're looking for the right personality.
We want someone who is:
- Naturally friendly, warm and welcoming
- Someone who genuinely enjoys talking to people
- Positive and enthusiastic
- Confident meeting and speaking to new people
- Approachable and a good listener
- Comfortable serving food and drinks
- Reliable and punctual
- Hard-working and willing to get stuck in
- Proactive and able to use their own initiative
- Organised and responsible
- Comfortable working independently
- A genuine team player
- Proud of maintaining a clean and welcoming environment
- Flexible and willing to help when the team needs additional support
- Comfortable using computers and willing to learn new systems
Previous experience in customer service, hospitality, cafés, leisure, retail or reception would be advantageous, but isn't essential for the right person.
You don't need to be a Personal Trainer or fitness expert.
We can teach systems, processes and how to make a great coffee. What matters most to us is finding someone who naturally enjoys working with people, takes pride in their work and fits into our team.
What We Offer
- From £12.71 per hour
- Approximately 25 regular hours per week
- Fully paid training and handover
- Opportunities for additional hours

Why Join Aptitude?
We're more than just a gym. We're a community.

Whether it's remembering a member's coffee order, welcoming someone on their first visit, helping with a membership question or simply having a chat with someone who's been coming to us for years, the small things matter.
We're looking for someone who wants to become part of that community rather than simply turn up for a shift.
If you're the sort of person who naturally says hello, starts conversations, remembers people's names and enjoys making people feel welcome, we'd love to hear from you.
