Full job description

We have an exciting opportunity for a sous chef with strong experience in a fresh prep environment to join our team at our busy and welcoming family pub.

The Barley Mow Inn is an established rural destination pub for food and has an excellent reputation for delivering great quality, traditional pub food using fresh, locally sourced produce. Our menu has been designed around simple, traditional pub dishes executed to a very high standard and using locally sourced ingredients wherever possible.

Thanks to increased demand for our delicious food, a unique opportunity has arisen to join our small and friendly team.

Enthusiasm and the right attitude is key, as we all work closely together as a team.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Assisting the head chef in delivering our traditional pub food menu from fresh ingredients to a high standard of presentation
  • Providing holiday cover for the head chef
  • Assisting with stock ordering in the head chef's absence
  • Input into weekly specials and menu design
  • Preparing and cooking fresh ingredients under instruction from the head chef to be used in our pies and other signature dishes, and maintaining these levels throughout the week
  • Adhering to the highest standards of hygiene and cleanliness
  • Maintaining a clean, tidy and safe kitchen environment
  • Covering for other staff members during busy periods and holidays as required
  • Working effectively with front of house staff to ensure a high level of customer service

The ideal candidate would have the following previous experience:

  • Previous head chef or sous chef experience
  • Previous experience in a kitchen preparing and serving freshly prepared dishes
  • Up to date food hygeine and catering qualifications
  • Knowledge of all relevant food safety practices and regulations to maintain compliance with EHO
  • Ability to work efficiently as part of a team in a fast-paced kitchen environment

We are located in a semi-rural location and have ample parking available. Public transport connections are poor, so having a car or other suitable independent transport would be a major advantage.
