Salary - Salary Plan, 40,000.00 GBP AnnualWe are looking for a Market Research Executive to join our Data Science & Insights team on a 6-month fixed-term contract (maternity cover) .
This is an exciting opportunity for a curious and commercially minded researcher who loves uncovering the story behind the data. If you thrive in a fast-moving environment, enjoy being part of meaningful business conversations, and want the freedom to lead projects from concept to insight, this could be the perfect role for you.
You'll take ownership of the full research lifecycle, from designing quantitative surveys and writing survey scripts to analysing results and presenting compelling findings to stakeholders. No two days are the same. One day you could be running customer research to understand emerging trends, and the next you could be investigating competitor activity, exploring market opportunities, or using data to help shape strategic decisions across the business.
We're looking for someone who can blend creativity with analytical thinking and isn't afraid to challenge assumptions or ask the right questions. Your technical expertise in Advanced Excel, Q, SmartSurvey, and AI-powered research tools will help you turn complex data into clear, actionable insights, while your storytelling skills will bring those insights to life through engaging presentations and reports.
You'll be joining a team that puts insight at the heart of decision-making. The Data Science & Insights Team is a trusted partner across the organisation, delivering high-quality research, market intelligence, and evidence-based recommendations that influence strategy and drive business success. It's a collaborative, supportive environment where best practice is championed, innovation is encouraged, and great ideas are always welcome.
If you're passionate about research, excited by variety, and motivated by the impact your work can have, we'd love to hear from you.
Although this role is contractually based at our Cambridge office, however we are currently embracing hybrid working, and therefore you will have the opportunity to also work mostly from a UK location other than this, as agreed with your line manager. Applicants should be aware that there is an expectation that employees will attend our Cambridge office one a month or on ad hoc basis.
This role is advertised until midnight on 16th July, however we will be reviewing CVs and interviewing during this time, so please apply as soon as you can. Just for your information, this role is known internally as Insights Analyst.
Day to day activities:
-
Work with designated stakeholders to gather insight and research requests, support prioritisation and help ensure resources are focused on the highest-value activities.
-
Use internal and external data sources to monitor and interpret market trends, including market size, growth rates and other relevant indicators.
-
Always follow market research best practice and contribute to the development and maintenance of robust data protection practices to ensure compliance with relevant legislation.
-
Analyse data to support evidence-based decision-making, applying appropriate statistical methods and sound judgement to interpret findings.
-
Build and maintain a strong understanding of customer data, markets, and the RSC’s products and services across the organisation.
-
Undertake project work that supports the RSC’s strategic priorities, applying market research expertise and a proactive approach to problem-solving to deliver practical outcomes.
-
Share market research knowledge and insight skills with colleagues, including providing training and guidance where appropriate.
Requirements:
-
Experience of carrying out customer and market research using qualitative and quantitative research techniques, such as interviews, surveys and focus groups.
-
Experience of working in a market research or insight role, either client-side or agency-side, is preferred.
-
Experience of monitoring competitor organisations and using competitor intelligence to identify trends, opportunities and implications.
-
Experience of managing multiple projects and priorities, with the ability to plan work effectively and meet deadlines.
-
High level of numeracy and an aptitude for data gathering, analysis, reporting and making evidence-based recommendations, including:
-
Advanced Microsoft Excel skills and a good working knowledge of other Microsoft Office packages.
-
Ability to summarise key trends from market, customer and scientific information, and produce clear written reports and presentations.
-
Knowledge of statistical techniques used in market research.
-
Experience using online survey tools, such as SmartSurvey or similar platforms.
-
Experience using analysis packages such as Q is preferred but not essential.
-
Benefits
At the Royal Society of Chemistry, we promote a healthy work/life balance and flexible working options across the organisation. We offer a comprehensive benefits package to all employees including:
-
26 days paid holiday per annum
-
35-hour working week with flexible options, to be agreed with your line manager
-
Access to a private medical (optional)
-
Enhanced maternity and paternity leave
-
Paid volunteering days
-
Pension plan with up to 12% employer contributions (depending upon your contribution)
