We are looking for a Crew Controller to support the safe and efficient delivery of our flying programme. You will play a critical role in monitoring and maintaining crew rosters, making real-time decisions, and ensuring operations remain compliant and resilient in a fast-paced 24/7 environment.
Taking ownership of both civilian and military crew scheduling within a defined operational window, you will ensure all crewing activity aligns with regulatory requirements while responding to disruptions, delays, and operational challenges. You will work closely with internal teams, customers, and suppliers to keep the operation running smoothly and effectively.

Why AirTanker?

AirTanker is a vital part of the UK’s defence capability, delivering air-to-air refuelling and air transport services to the RAF and MOD. We operate at the intersection of military precision and commercial innovation. As a Crew Controller, you will be at the heart of the operation, ensuring our crews are in the right place at the right time to deliver critical outputs safely and efficiently.
You will work as part of a high-performing team responsible for maintaining continuity of operations, minimising disruption, and ensuring compliance with aviation regulations and fatigue management principles.

What's in it for you?

Operational Impact: Play a key role in the real-time delivery of the flying programme and overall operational performance
Fast-Paced Environment: Work in a dynamic, 24/7 operation requiring quick thinking and problem-solving
Development Opportunities: Gain exposure to aviation operations, crew planning, and regulatory frameworks
Team Environment: Work closely with a collaborative team across military and civilian operations
Comprehensive Benefits: Including private medical insurance, bonus scheme, EV scheme, contributory pension, and more
Adventure & Belonging: Battlefield tours, adventure training, and family fun days

AirTanker supports flexible working to help employees achieve a healthy work-life balance. We recognise the importance of balancing work with personal commitments and are committed to agreeing arrangements that meet both individual and business needs.

What you’ll be doing

  • Monitor and maintain crew rosters over a rolling 5-day operational window
  • Make real-time decisions to manage delays, disruptions, and crew availability
  • Ensure all crewing activity remains compliant with CAA Flight Time Limitations and fatigue risk management principles
  • Communicate changes and updates to crew, ensuring clear and timely information
  • Liaise with Crew Scheduling, Crew Training Planning, management teams, and Squadron colleagues
  • Act as a central point of contact for crewing queries from internal and external stakeholders
  • Support delivery of third-party contractual and ad hoc charter requirements
  • Coordinate crew travel and accommodation arrangements within the operational window
  • Supervise day-to-day activities of the Crew Duty Officer
  • Maintain accurate records including task sheets, error logs, training reports, and handovers
  • Contribute to a safe and compliant operation in line with Safety, Quality, and Environmental Management Systems

What you’ll bring

  • Experience in a crewing or operational environment (desirable, not essential)
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced setting
  • Ability to make sound, time-critical decisions under pressure
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to engage internal and external stakeholders
  • Good level of computer literacy (experience with crewing systems such as AIMS is beneficial)
  • Understanding of Flight Time Limitations and fatigue risk management (desirable)
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
