Be there for children with disabilities when they need you most - and we’ll be there for you. Join The Big House as a Residential Social Care Worker and help create a supportive environment where every child can thrive. Enjoy competitive pay, generous benefits, and a fulfilling career dedicated to making a difference.

Nottinghamshire County Council is looking for an enthusiastic and motivated Residential Social Care Worker to join our dedicated team at The Big House, a children’s disabilities home in Edwinstowe. As a Residential Social Care Worker, you will play a vital role in ensuring the physical, emotional, and health care needs of children are met. You’ll work closely with families and colleagues to ensure each child’s individual needs are supported with dignity, compassion, and professionalism. You will be part of a warm and nurturing team that values every member.

This is more than a job - it’s an opportunity to make a real difference in the lives of children and their families, while being part of a team that values support, development, and shared purpose.

As a Residential Social Care Worker, your main duties will include:

  • Providing high-quality care and support to children with Intellectual Disabilities.
  • Meeting the physical, emotional, and health care needs of the children.
  • Engaging in activities that promote their development and well-being.
  • Working collaboratively with team members to create a safe and supportive environment.
  • Maintaining accurate records and documentation related to care plans.
  • Participating in shift work, including weekends and bank holidays.

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • Experience working with children and young people in a residential setting or school.
  • Experience supporting children or adults with learning difficulties.
  • A commitment to ongoing professional development and training.
  • A valid full drivers licence.

We are looking for individuals who demonstrate the following behaviours:

  • A caring and compassionate approach to working with children.
  • Resilience in handling challenging situations, both physically and emotionally.
  • Strong teamwork skills, contributing positively to a collaborative environment.
  • Flexibility and adaptability to meet the changing needs of children and the team.

About The Big House

The Big House is a warm, welcoming short breaks home, providing high-quality care and support for children with a significant intellectual disability and who may display risk behaviours when they are distressed or have an unmet need. They may also have some moderate physical disabilities and medical and sensory needs. We offer them fun, safe, and enriching experiences while giving families valuable respite.

Our vision is simple: to create a place where children feel safe, loved, healthy, and happy. We focus on building trusted relationships, supporting individual needs, and celebrating every child’s achievements.

This role involves working shifts, including:

Early shifts: 6:30/7 am - 3:00 pm
Late shifts: 2:00 pm - 10:00 pm
A rota system, working two weekends out of three, with a 12-week advance schedule for planning.

We offer generous enhancements for shift work, including additional pay for hours worked after 8 pm, weekends, and bank holidays. This can significantly increase your annual earnings.

At Nottinghamshire County Council, we offer:

  • A friendly, inclusive workplace where everyone is valued.
  • Opportunities for professional development and training.
  • A supportive environment that encourages personal growth.
  • A chance to be part of a community-focused organisation that truly cares.
  • Participation in the local government pension scheme with a 6.5% employer contribution.

Join our fast-paced, innovative home that is dedicated to providing exceptional care for children while helping them reach their full potential. You will receive support from both your team and managers, along with extensive training and development opportunities.

If you are excited about working with children, enjoy variety and fun, and are ready to take on a rewarding challenge in a warm, homely environment, we would love to hear from you!

NCC will not provide sponsorship for this role.
