Family Support Worker (Night Staff)

Location: Tennyson Avenue, Bridlington YO15 2EX

Pay: £13.05–£14.50 per hour

Job summary

Chrysalis Assessment & Support Centre is a Residential Family Assessment Centre providing support, advice, and teaching to parents. The service works independently and delivers thorough, expert, evidence-based parenting assessments to placing Local Authorities and the Court.

We are looking for a Family Support Worker to join our night staff team. In this role, you will support parents overnight as they care for their children, help maintain a safe and structured environment, and record clear, factual observations that contribute to the overall assessment process.

Your support, guidance, and observational notes will play an important part in helping parents develop their parenting skills while ensuring that the welfare and safeguarding of each child remains the priority at all times. Chrysalis’ work is centred on promoting the best possible outcomes for children in a safe environment.

Key responsibilities

  • Observe and record overnight interactions between parents and children in a clear, concise, and factual way
  • Support parents in developing safe and effective parenting skills during night-time routines
  • Provide guidance and practical support while promoting independence
  • Maintain accurate diary notes and written records to support assessment outcomes
  • Help ensure the environment remains safe, structured, nurturing, and child-focused throughout the night
  • Work professionally with parents who may have additional vulnerabilities, including learning difficulties/disabilities, mental health concerns, ADHD, Asperger’s, or historical/recent substance misuse
  • Work in partnership with the wider team while maintaining professional boundaries at all times

Updated essential requirements

  • Level 3 qualification or above in Children and Young People’s Workforce or equivalent, such as Health & Social Care, Working with Children, Young People and Families, Early Childhood Studies, or Early Years
  • Previous experience in at least one of the following: safeguarding, children and families, children’s health and development, or residential settings
  • Experience observing and recording interactions involving service users, children, and families
  • Knowledge of child protection legislation, safeguarding, and relevant guidance
  • Strong understanding of safeguarding practices and maintaining child welfare as the principal focus
  • Knowledge of child development
  • Understanding of oppression, discrimination, and disadvantage
  • Strong written communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and observation skills
  • Good computer literacy
  • Ability to support and promote independence
  • Clear DBS check including both Adults’ and Children’s barred lists
  • Ability to work night shifts, including weekends and public holidays
  • Ability to work on own initiative and as part of a team
  • Commitment to personal and professional development
