Full job description

As a Casual Technician, you will play a key role in supporting the delivery of a diverse programme of performances, events and productions. Working as part of the technical teams in our Theatre and Studios venues, you will provide practical assistance with large and medium scale get-ins and get-outs, general stagecraft and show crew duties. You will help ensure productions run smoothly and safely, contributing to high-quality experiences for performers, visiting companies and audiences alike.

The post requires early mornings, evenings and weekend work on a casual basis, so flexibility is essential. The post holder will be required to attend staff training sessions.

Salary: £13.45 per hour standard rate. UK TMA theatre load out rates and enhancements payments for overnight, Sundays and Bank Holidays apply to this post

Your main responsibilities will be:

  • To work as part of the technical team in the smooth running of fit-ups, rehearsals, performances, changeovers and get-outs.
  • Assisting in the building of show set elements and general stage craft
  • Building of set and scenery elements and the rigging of lighting, sound and A/V systems

· With training, be able to function in any appropriate position as part of show crew (Stage, Flys, LX, Follow spot, Sound).

· Assist with the maintenance of facilities throughout the building.

· Assist with seating layouts and orchestra pit configuration.

· Consider and bring to the attention of the Senior Technical staff any health and safety issues that arise in respect of the visiting productions.

· Deliver a professional service to visiting companies by always working to the best of your abilities.

Our ideal applicant will have:

Essential qualities:

  • Experience of working in a theatre, live events, entertainment venue, or similar technical environment.
  • Practical knowledge of stagecraft, including show crew duties, scenery handling, and get-ins/get-outs.
  • Experience setting up and operating technical equipment, such as lighting, sound and audio-visual systems.
  • Understanding of health and safety requirements within a live performance environment, including manual handling and safe working practices.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team and support visiting companies, performers and colleagues in a professional manner.
  • Problem-solving skills and ability to remain calm under pressure in a live event environment.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to follow instructions and work collaboratively.
  • Reliable, proactive and adaptable approach to work, with a willingness to undertake a wide variety of technical tasks.
  • Ability to work evenings, weekends and bank holidays as required by the performance schedule.
  • Physically capable of carrying out the practical aspects of the role, including lifting, carrying and standing for extended periods.
