  • Do you display the highest standards of corporate governance, risk management and integrity?
  • Are you looking for your next career move in the sports or maritime sector?
  • Most importantly, are you passionate about what you do?

The RYA is the National Governing Body for a broad range of sailing and boating activities with an extensive network of affiliated clubs, class associations and training centres. We are a membership organisation of over 100,000 members and a world-leading provider of training schemes and publications.

The RYA is also home to the British Sailing Team, the most successful Olympic sailing nation in history. We are immensely proud of our heritage and in 2025 we will celebrate our 150th anniversary – a perfect opportunity to promote the value of sailing and boating in supporting the health and wellbeing of society in the future. Our plans for growth mean we’re looking for a Director of Legal, Governance and Integrity to join our team.

You will be responsible for establishing the Legal, Governance and Integrity Department, with existing functions and their teams in order to support the RYA, in achieving the highest standards of corporate governance, risk management and integrity. You will lead through effective collaboration with all other RYA departments, supporting and enabling excellent governance, safeguarding and a commitment to position integrity practices central to how the RYA operates.

Through the lens of corporate risk, you will help to create ways of working that will support a collaborative culture - one that enables and empowers colleagues to drive sustainable change. You will be able to balance legal and ethical considerations in decision-making processes and draw on your effective communication and influencing skills, to ensure early engagement and nurturing of relationships with key stakeholders. You will be a strategic thinker, but action orientated happy to roll up your sleeves and support others to deliver.

You will have a strong commitment to promoting safeguarding, equity, diversity and inclusion. Cultural sensitivity, strong critical listening and emotional intelligence will be amongst your suite of qualities. You will also be readily aligned to our values of Open, Impactful, Responsible and Influential.

As well as the job satisfaction you’ll find in this new role, you’ll receive a range of benefits, including:

o 33 days holiday including public holidays

o Birthday day off

o 10% RYA contribution to a personal pension scheme

o Free life insurance

o Discounts platform for retail, entertainment, holidays & gym membership

o 2 volunteering days (paid)

o Free charging point for electric vehicles whilst on your working days at the office

o Social Events

o RYA Membership

o Optional Team Sailing Days

As an equal opportunity and disability confident employer, we celebrate and welcome diversity in all its forms and believe that a diverse workforce boosts innovation, productivity, and creativity. We are dedicated to promoting equity, diversity and inclusion and strive to be an inclusive and diverse workplace where everyone can be their authentic selves. We would particularly encourage applications from ethnically diverse candidates who are currently underrepresented at the RYA.
