The role will be based in Bristol with travel required across the UK for specific project opportunities.

The Role

We are looking to recruit a Graduate/Junior Digital Consultant – Software Development to join our Data and Digital team. In this role, you will support the design, development, and maintenance of software solutions that underpin our wider consultancy work. As part of a small, dynamic team, you will have a genuine opportunity to help shape the direction and delivery of our products and services.

Your primary focus will be front-end web application development. You will need to bring a strong understanding of modern front-end technologies and user-centred design. Experience or interest in backend API development and integrations would also be highly valued. We are looking for someone with an eye for clean, functional design and an openness to exploring new technologies, tools, and approaches.

We are seeking motivated candidates who are comfortable working both independently and collaboratively. Curiosity, enthusiasm, and a proactive approach to innovation and problem-solving are essential.

Skills and experience we are looking for

Essential:

  • Proven experience building front-end web applications, with JavaScript as your primary programming language.
  • A strong understanding of web design principles, responsive UI/UX design, accessibility, and modern web standards.
  • Good software development best practices, including version control systems such as Git.
  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills.
  • Clear and effective written and verbal communication skills.

Desirable:

  • 2+ years of experience in a relevant software engineering role.
  • Python as a second programming language or a desire to develop it.
  • Hands-on experience with:
  • TypeScript, React, Tailwind.
  • Data visualisation and mapping libraries (e.g. Cesium.js, Recharts, OpenLayers).
  • Relational databases (e.g. PostgreSQL).
  • Developing services and working with RESTful APIs.
  • Development experience within Linux-based or containerised systems (e.g. Docker).
  • An understanding of how AI-assisted coding tools can be used to support, accelerate, and coordinate software development.

Qualifications:

  • Relevant A-Levels (or equivalent).
  • A degree (or equivalent professional experience) in a relevant subject (e.g. computer science, software development, or a related field).
