Full job description

Join a mission-critical government transformation where your DevOps expertise will directly impact secure, AI-enabled services that shape the future of digital government.

Salary: £650 - 750 per day
Senior DevOps / Infrastructure Engineer (SC / DV Cleared)

Location: London / Manchester / Bristol / Birmingham (Hybrid)

Clearance: SC or DV required

Rate: Competitive

Overview

We are supporting a central government organisation building and scaling a new capability across secure, data-driven and AI-enabled services.

They are looking for a hands-on DevOps / Infrastructure Engineer who can operate across complex, hybrid environments - someone comfortable working at the intersection of infrastructure, automation and delivery.

This is not a pure cloud or platform role. The focus is on building, automating and improving real-world environments, often within constrained and evolving estates.

The Role

You will play a key role in:

  • Designing, building and maintaining secure infrastructure environments
  • Automating infrastructure and deployment processes using modern tooling
  • Supporting the creation of test environments, POCs and scalable delivery pipelines
  • Working across hybrid estates (on-prem, virtualised and cloud)
  • Improving reliability, repeatability and efficiency of infrastructure deployments
  • Collaborating with engineering, security and delivery teams within a secure government setting

What We're Looking For

We're looking for engineers who are:

  • Strongly hands-on and delivery-focused
  • Comfortable working in complex, imperfect or legacy environments
  • Able to take ownership and "get things working" end-to-end

Key Experience

  • Proven experience in a DevOps / Infrastructure / Platform Engineering role
  • Strong background in infrastructure build, configuration and automation
  • Experience working across hybrid environments (not just cloud-native)

Tooling & Technologies:

  • Infrastructure as Code: Terraform, Ansible (or similar)
  • CI/CD: Azure DevOps, Jenkins, GitLab or similar
  • Scripting: PowerShell, Bash or Python
  • Cloud: AWS and/or Azure
  • Virtualisation / Infrastructure: VMware, Hyper-V or similar
  • Operating Systems: Windows and/or Linux

Highly Desirable

  • Experience working within UK Government or secure environments
  • Exposure to:
  • Building POC / test environments
  • Automating infrastructure at scale
  • Working with secure or restricted systems
  • Understanding of DevOps in regulated or controlled environments

Why Join

  • Opportunity to work on high-impact, mission-critical systems
  • Be part of a growing capability with long-term investment
  • Work on real engineering challenges, not just greenfield cloud builds
  • Play a key role in shaping how infrastructure and DevOps is delivered in a secure environment

Take the next step in your DevOps career and become part of a team delivering cutting-edge infrastructure solutions for critical government services.
