Full job description

Before reading: Do NOT apply unless you are based in Central or North London. In-person dialectic communication is an essential part of this role.

How To Apply:

To apply, please email your CV AND a brief 1–3 minute video (can be recorded casually on your phone or laptop) to:

apply@futuremedicine.com (ran by one of James' assistants)

In your video, we’d love to hear:

  • Why you’re interested in working with James
  • Why you feel you are the right fit for this role
  • Your literary/artistic/historical/creative interests
  • Thoughts and observations on the JamesDrakeTV YouTube channel (bonus: one new idea you can suggest)

Include any relevant projects, creative work, or simply a reflection on your relationship with art, letters, and culture. CVs are welcome but not required. What matters most is resonance.

Description:

Are you captivated by the intellectual salons of 1920s Paris? Do you devour the works of Proust, Freud, and other titans of 19th and early 20th century thought? Do you dream of creating beautiful, timeless projects—books, letters, curations—that are rich with artistic and literary flair? Or contributing to a growing YouTube channel?

If so, you may be the person we’re looking for.

Who We Are

James Drake is a serial entrepreneur, patron of the arts, and lifelong creative thinker. Now in his 70s but with the energy of a man half his age, James is turning his attention to mentoring the next generation of curious, creative minds. He has published books that blend science and literature, curated letters from figures like Freud and Enrico Caruso, and is currently working on a series of passion projects, including his own YouTube channel to illuminate stories from the past: JamesDrakeTV.

You can learn more about James at www.jamesdrake.com.

What We’re Looking For

We’re seeking a creative collaborator - a curious, culturally literate individual who would love to sit down once a week with James to brainstorm and co-create small, meaningful projects. Think of it as a modern-day salon: a place for ideas to flourish, for letters to be written, books to be dreamed up, and creative energy to flow freely.

This is not a full-time job. It’s an opportunity. An exchange of ideas. A mentorship, and a partnership. Primarily it will involve:

  • Co-curate or write a new limited-edition book with James that relates to the themes above
  • Explore historical archives and cultural themes
  • Develop creative projects at the intersection of art, letters, and memory
  • Developing ideas for his YouTube channel: James Drake TV

You Might Be:

  • A writer, artist, or researcher with a deep interest in art history, literature, or music
  • A creative generalist who loves books, culture, and working on non-commercial passion projects
  • Someone who dreams of building timeless things and values mentorship, depth, and originality
  • Familiar with or fascinated by figures like Proust, Freud, or the world of Montparnasse
  • Comfortable with eccentric brilliance, boundless energy, and intellectual play

Pay: From £200.00 per day

Ability to commute/relocate:

  • London, Greater London: reliably commute or plan to relocate before starting work (required)

Application question(s):

  • Have you followed the job description's instructions on how to apply? (Video submission to apply@futuremedicine.com)
  • Describe 3 reasons why you would be suitable for this role? (No AI responses)

Work authorisation:

  • United Kingdom (required)

Location:

  • London, Greater London (required)

Work Location: In person
