Patient Services & Operations Manager

Pay: Starting £35,000.00

Nuffield Road Medical Centre, Cambridge

We are seeking a proactive, organised and experienced Patient Services & Operations Manager to support the Practice Manager in the day-to-day running of our busy GP surgery.

This is a hands-on operational leadership role, working closely with the Practice Manager to ensure the smooth, safe and efficient running of services. You will lead the Patient Services team, support operational workflows, and help deliver high-quality patient access and experience across a busy primary care environment.

This role requires strong leadership, resilience and the ability to remain calm, professional and solution-focused under pressure. You will be visible in the day-to-day running of the practice and play a key role in maintaining service continuity and standards.

We are a friendly, high-performing practice with approximately 14,000 patients and a multidisciplinary team including GPs, nurses, pharmacists, paramedics ,ACP and allied health professionals. We hold a Good CQC rating and are committed to delivering safe, patient-centred care.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support day-to-day operational running of Patient Services, including reception workflows and front-line cover during periods of pressure to maintain service continuity.
  • Facilitate effective communication between Patient Services and the wider practice, promoting teamwork and operational coordination.
  • Deputise for the Practice Manager, undertaking delegated duties and supporting operational continuity during absences.
  • Contribute to staff training, induction and development, and support incident reporting and shared learning across the team.
  • Promote staff wellbeing, engagement and a positive team culture.
  • Maintain high standards of confidentiality, professionalism, and compliance with practice policies, including health and safety and data protection requirements.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement, audits and service development initiatives.

About you

You will have strong operational experience within a healthcare or primary care setting, excellent communication and organisational skills, and the ability to remain calm and effective in a busy environment. You will be confident supporting staff, managing competing priorities, and working collaboratively with clinical and non-clinical teams.

You will have at least 2 years’ experience working in a healthcare or primary care environment.
