Full job description

The employer

A private family home with gardens of some 6 acres, comprising ornamental formal gardens and extensive lawns.

The job

As the sole gardener for this small estate, your prime focus will be the upkeep of approx. 6 acres of landscaped ornamental gardens and lawns, responsible for caring for the health of plants, weeding, pruning, spraying, and extensive hedge-cutting and mowing. For this you will use a variety of equipment including strimmers, chainsaws, electric and petrol hedge trimmers, hand mower, ride-on, and state-of-the-art John Deere large ride-on, as well as a quad bike and trailer.

There will never be a dull moment as, once you are on top of the gardens, there are many more areas to be involved with including a 5 acre woodland and a chance to utilise your expertise for specialist tasks in other local gardens owned by the family.

A rare opportunity to take over an established garden and care for and nurture it.

A 2, 3, or 4 bedroom property will be provided with the job.

What you'll need

An experienced horticulturalist with extensive knowledge of the care of perennials and shrubs
An excellent timekeeper who is reliable and trustworthy
A strong knowledge of pruning
Happy to work alone for long periods
A proactive attitude towards the overall upkeep of the garden and grounds
Knowledge and experience of pesticides and chemical applications
Experience using chainsaws and other horticultural machinery
Chainsaw Maintenance/Crosscutting and PA1/PA6 strongly desired
Love of the outdoors and working in all weathers
Happy to turn your hand to other tasks required by the family, such as light maintenance work, taking out the bins
A Full UK driving licence and your own transport.

Where you'll be based

The estate is based nearby the village of Dennington, Suffolk.

What you'll receive

£30,000 - £33,000 per annum dependent on experience
Property provided in the form of a 2, 3, or 4 bedroom house on the estate (increased salary available if property not required)
Full time employment working 40 hours per week, ideally between 8am-4:30pm
28 days holiday including bank holidays
Stunning working location in the Suffolk countryside
An opportunity to have a 'job for life'
