Job Summary
As Groundsperson at Lancaster City Football Club, you will take primary responsibility for the preparation, maintenance and care of the club’s football pitch. You will keep the playing surface to a consistently high standard for first-team fixtures, training and other games. You will also manage how the pitch is used so the surface is protected across the season.

Duties

  • Maintain the pitch day to day, including mowing, marking, divoting, watering, routine repairs and remedial work.
  • Prepare and mark the pitch for all home fixtures, including first-team, U23, Ladies and other teams using the ground. Carry out pre-match checks and post-match recovery work.
  • Assess weather and pitch conditions and adapt maintenance and preparation to suit, particularly during heavy use and poor weather.
  • Coordinate pitch usage with club staff so training and fixtures are scheduled around pitch condition and maintenance needs. Flag any restrictions or concerns early.
  • Arrange or assist with specialist turf treatments and remedial works where needed.
  • Operate, clean and maintain groundskeeping machinery and tools safely, and report faults promptly.
  • Keep the pitch surrounds clean, safe and presentable, and support matchday set-up and clear-down alongside staff and volunteers.
  • Follow club health and safety procedures and use appropriate PPE at all times.
  • Your impact: A well-prepared, well-protected pitch gives players a safe, quality surface and helps the club present itself at its best on matchdays.

Skills
Required: You will need experience in sports turf, grounds maintenance or football pitch maintenance, and a good understanding of what it takes to prepare and maintain a quality playing surface. You should be confident using grounds machinery and equipment and able to assess pitch condition and plan work around fixtures and training. Preferred: Experience planning specialist turf treatments and managing a pitch through a full season of mixed use is advantageous. You should be organised, reliable and comfortable working independently. You will also need a flexible approach to hours, because matchday, evening and weekend work will be required. Pay is based on experience and agreed hours.

Pay: From £12,500.00 per year

Benefits:

  • Free parking
  • On-site parking

Work Location: In person
