Glasshouse Manager

Are client is looking to employ a Glasshouse Manager for a permanent, full-time position at their site near Braintree.

Overseeing the daily operations of the brand new glasshouse and polytunnel, this role will involve close collaboration with the R+D team to ensure the smooth running of the glasshouse as well as the trials operations, supporting both internal and external stakeholders, such as the commercial crop protection, seed, and fertiliser teams, as well as external manufacturers.

Responsibilities:

• Work with the R+D team to plan trial operations, prioritise workload, and ensure all tasks are completed safely and efficiently.
• Ensure availability of consumables and proper planning of glasshouse/polytunnel space for year-round trials.
• Manage trial protocols, including lighting, irrigation, and inputs, while liaising with relevant staff to ensure protocol compliance.
• Oversee glasshouse maintenance, including pest control, equipment upkeep, and ensuring timely trial completion.
• Assist with spraying, assessing, sampling, maintenance, and harvest as needed.
• Participate in planning and coordinating open day events, setting up for demonstration days.

Knowledge & Experience Required:

• Proven experience in glasshouse management and trials.
• Strong organisational skills with attention to detail.
• Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks effectively.
• Technical understanding of trial protocols, lighting, irrigation, and crop input systems.
• Flexible approach to meet seasonal demands and trial schedules.
