Gardener / Grounds Maintenance Operative

Part‑time | West Yorkshire

Job Summary

We are seeking a reliable and hardworking Gardener to join our garden maintenance team. You will be responsible for maintaining outdoor spaces to a high standard, including lawns, borders, hedges and general garden areas. This is a lone-working role, involving travel between jobs in a company van, and utilising a range of hand and power tools.

The ideal candidate will take pride in their work, manage their time well, and represent the business in a polite and professional manner. The position is for 16 hours per week initially with potential to increase.

Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out routine garden maintenance: grass cutting, weeding, strimming, hedge trimming and general tidy‑ups
  • Operate hand tools (secateurs, spades, rakes, hoes) safely and efficiently
  • Use power tools including lawnmowers, hedge trimmers, strimmers and blowers
  • Maintain pathways, borders and garden features to a high standard
  • Ensure all work areas are left clean, tidy and presentable
  • Manage daily schedules independently and complete tasks on time
  • Follow all health & safety procedures, including correct use of PPE
  • Work in a polite, respectful and professional manner at all times
  • Lone‑work safely while using a company van and equipment

Essential Requirements

  • Full clean driving licence (essential)
  • Good time‑keeping and reliability
  • Ability to work independently and manage your own workload
  • Professional, polite and customer‑focused attitude
  • Experience using hand tools and power tools in a gardening or landscaping setting
  • Practical understanding of lawn care, pruning, weeding, strimming and hedge trimming
  • Comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions
  • Physically fit and able to carry out manual outdoor work
  • Willingness to follow safety procedures and wear PPE at all times
  • Confident driving a short wheel base van
  • Previous gardening, grounds maintenance or landscaping experience
  • Knowledge of plant care and seasonal garden tasks
  • Experience in lone‑working or mobile roles
