Overview

We are a Day Centre for adults with a range of disabilities from learning disabilities to autism and physical disabilities and there will be some working with students involved in the job, although they will usually have a support worker with them. There will also be the possibility of taking a PAT testing course, so that the successful candidate will be able to PAT test electrical items around the building
We are seeking a reliable and skilled Handyman to join our team, responsible for maintaining and repairing various outdoor and indoor areas. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in gardening, horticulture, and landscape maintenance, with practical experience using a range of hand tools and power tools. This role offers an excellent opportunity for individuals passionate about property upkeep, gardening, and general maintenance tasks to contribute to the upkeep of our premises efficiently and professionally. We do work off site too, in customers garden, this may be clearing areas, planting, landscaping, general maintenance and pruning.

Duties

  • Perform general repairs and maintenance across indoor and outdoor spaces, including fixing fixtures, fittings, and minor structural issues.
  • Use hand tools and power tools safely and effectively to carry out repairs, installations, and maintenance tasks.
  • Maintain gardens and landscaped areas through pruning, planting, weeding, mowing, and other gardening activities.
  • Manage irrigation systems to ensure proper watering schedules and troubleshoot any issues that arise.
  • Conduct landscape maintenance including lawn care, hedge trimming, planting, and soil preparation.
  • Assist with specialised horticultural tasks such as fertilising, pest control, and plant health assessments.
  • Ensure all work areas are kept clean, organised, and safe in accordance with health and safety regulations.
  • Collaborate with team members to complete projects efficiently whilst adhering to quality standards.

Skills

  • Proficiency in using hand tools such as hammers, screwdrivers, spanners, etc., for various repair tasks.
  • Experience with power tools including drills, saws, trimmers, and lawnmowers.
  • Knowledge of irrigation systems installation and maintenance.
  • Growing experience in gardening or horticulture is highly desirable.
  • Strong understanding of landscape maintenance practices including lawn care and plant management.
  • Ability to undertake gardening tasks such as pruning, planting, fertilising, pest management, and soil preparation.
  • Good organisational skills with the ability to prioritise tasks effectively.
  • Physical fitness to perform manual labour outdoors in various weather conditions. This role is ideal for a proactive individual eager to utilise their gardening expertise alongside general maintenance skills within a dynamic environment.

Pay: £13.45 per hour

Expected hours: 27.5 per week
