OVERALL AIM OF THE JOB:
To complete general plumbing, gas safety, servicing and compliance works to Cornerstone properties.
MAIN TASKS:
i) Carrying out general plumbing works including repairs and installation works as required
ii) Gas servicing and safety works
iii) Boiler and plumbing fault finding and repair works
iv) Gas appliance servicing works i.e. fires/ cookers etc. as required
v) Unvented cylinder checks and services as required
vi) Any other reasonable activity associated with your trade or profession as required
vii) Implementation of the Association’s Health and Safety Policies and Procedures
DELEGATED AUTHORITY:
To order materials or services necessary for carrying out your duties, always in accordance with specified procedures and financial limits.
JOB ACTIVITIES:
1. TRADE
1.1 To carry out all works associated with your trade in accordance with current best practice and any guidance from your supervisor. You are expected to keep yourself updated in your own field of expertise. Where this requires registration with bodies such as NECEIC or Gas Safe, this should be in consultation with your supervisor. Competency checks with your affiliated trade body will be conducted as required.
1.2 To carry out the traditional duties of a Multi Skilled Gas Engineer/Plumber including repairs, void maintenance and investment works and assisting various other trade operatives as required. This may include small, joinery, decoration and other associated tasks in repairing any work areas disturbed as part of the engineers work.
1.3 To carry out jobs according to instructions and to keep materials usage to a minimum consistent with required quality standards, obtaining approval whenever any substantial variation from orders is required.
1.4 To use the PDA as instructed adding notes to all jobs as to works done and updates to jobs.
1.5 To ensure the customer appointments are kept to time and communication is maintained with the customer at all times.
1.6 Manage workload including reactive maintenance and report performance issues to your Supervisor.
1.7 Support other team members such as Planners wherever possible to keep the customer at the forefront of your role.
1.8 To undertake other trade activities deemed to be within your abilities as instructed by your supervisor or other senior member of staff.
2. HEALTH & SAFETY
2.1 Adhere to the requirements of Cornerstone’s policies and all relevant Health & Safety legislation.
2.2 To carry out work in accordance with the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974.
2.3 Ensure that you familiarise yourself with Cornerstone’s COSHH register and that its contents are observed and applied at all times.
2.4 To ensure all Health & Safety requirements are adhered to in relation to carrying out works, such as specific job risk assessments.
2.5 Adhere to CDM2015 and all related H&S legislation and guidance.
2.6 To report accidents to your line manager immediately and to record details of such incidents in the accident book provided.
2.7 Ensure that the PPE kit issued to you is kept and stored in good condition at all times and available for inspection when asked.
2.8 Bring any health & safety matters of concern to the immediate attention of your supervisor or manager.
2.9 Ensure that tenant information is updated using your electronic smart device.
3. CONTROL OF STOCK AND EQUIPMENT
3.1 Ensure that the storage areas and vehicles are kept tidy and locked at all times when unattended.
3.2 To order materials from suppliers for jobs which need a follow up visit due to not having the availability of van stock. Information on such orders are to be added onto the job notes on the PDA.
3.3 To manage and be responsible for van stock assigned to your vehicle.
3.4 Bring any defective materials or equipment to the attention of your supervisor.
3.5 All loose tools and equipment must be maintained in good working order in accordance with Cornerstone’s policies.
3.6 To ensure that all tools and equipment are kept in good working order and where required serviced regularly.
3.7 When driving a vehicle the vehicle section on the PDA must be completed.
3.8 Ensure that electronic purchase orders and timesheets are updated after each job and purchase.
4. EMERGENCY WORKS
4.1 To carry out emergency repairs within the target timescale.
4.2 Make safe: to record the time an emergency repair has been made safe in the appropriate section on the PDA and if this is not available to communicate the information back to the Planner.
4.3 If a follow up visit is required, communicate with the customer and report back to the Planner all appointment requirements.
4.4 Enter Make Safe details to all emergency jobs.
5. GENERAL
5.1 Promote Cornerstone’s vision and values in all that you do.

5.7 Ensure Cornerstone’s financial procedures are followed. 5.8 Work efficiently and effectively with a focus on value for money.
5.9 Take ownership of your own professional development and undertake training relevant to your role.
5.10 Keep all duties of the post-holder under review and make recommendations for any improvements in policies and procedures to your line manager.
5.11 Occasional after hours work may be required within the scope of the role.
5.12 Any other duties appropriate to your position as may be identified from time to time.
Personal Specification
Basic Eligibility
- Right to work within the United Kingdom.

Qualifications (essential)
ACS Qualifications:
- Core Domestic Natural Gas (CCN1)
- Domestic Central Heating boilers and Water Heaters < 70kw (CENWAT)
- Domestic Cookers (CKR1)
- Domestic fire and wall heaters (HTR1)
- Unvented hot water systems (UHWS)
Entry level qualifications in English Language and Mathematics or equivalent, including good communication skills Relevant Gas Safe or equivalent skills card
Experience and knowledge (essential)
- Completed and spent the required period on a gas engineer apprenticeship (time-served) or significant experience in the gas trade
- Previous knowledge of the building industry, particularly property maintenance in occupied homes experience
- To operate ICT hardware and systems in line with protocols, in an effective and efficient way, receiving and updating accurate and relative information when required and in real time
- Knowledge of health & safety as appropriate to this role
- Experience of gas appliance testing in domestic properties, installing and commissioning new domestic systems
- Gas Boiler / Cooker fault finding and repair works
- Experience working to policies and procedures
- Positive approach to engaging with customers
- Ability to follow instructions and work as part of a team
- Knowledge of data protection principles
