Basic salary, £40,000 to £45,000 depending on experience, plus overtime, tips and bonus

On Target Earnings (OTE) £50,000 to £60,000 depending on experience and performance

We have an unbeatable reputation for consistently being one of the top food led pubs in the Cotswolds over the last 20 years. We’re lucky, because the Bell is a centuries old building, oozing charm, and for decades it’s been buzzing with delighted customers. Sapperton is one of the most beautiful villages in Britain, in the heart of the Cotswolds.

Our customers are everything to us and they are both discerning ‘foodies’ who have driven hours to get here and also our local community who love us for still being a proper independent pub, unlike so many of our competitors in the region. We look after anywhere between 50 and 250 covers a day, depending on the time of year. Yes, we’ve got great awards and reviews, but, most importantly, we’re still growing and we’re professional too.

We aim to be the best in simple, but highest quality, fresh British pub food , wonderful drinks and a hub for the community and the most diverse and discerning customers. We launched our guest bedrooms in 2021, becoming a proper inn, experiencing close to 100% occupancy, especially from spring to autumn. The business independently owned by experienced foody and pub consultant Peter Austen. We continue to grow and have come out of Covid and other industry-wide challenges well. However, in 2024 we aim to take on a second pub and the new role of General Manager has been created at the Bell in order to become better run, more efficient and to establish the Bell as our company HQ and flagship. The recruitment of an experienced and forward thinking GM is essential to help facilitate our planned growth, to lead and inspire the whole team and to help the owner take on more pubs and hospitality businesses in the Cotswolds in the next few years.

Who ‘you’ are:

An open minded, successful and ambitious General Manager, ideally with at least 3-5 years of pub general management experience, as a licensee, host and face of the business. A leader with a rare ‘can do’ attitude for our guests, staff team and (lastly!) owner. You will be passionate about pubs, with proven experience of managing high standard and fast paced pubs and restaurants. Candidates from branded or independent 'gastro' pub sectors will be welcome, as both backgrounds are hugely respected. You will be assisting and reporting to the owner on a daily basis at first, being 'inter' dependent on each other. As this is a successful business, you will need to earn respect and trust to gain more autonomy, which will be essential in order for the owner to step back and expand the business once the Bell is successful under your leadership.

You will need to be very hands on, the face of the business whilst helping the other managers (Operations (Admin) Manager, Deputy Manager, Bar Manager and Duty Managers) and Head Chef to organise, lead and continuously motivate a team currently consisting of approximately 30 full-time and part-time staff.

Your role is to build on the excellent existing reputation of the Bell, to consistently deliver improved customer service, whilst at the same time becoming more efficient and profitable, despite challenging times. You will lead a team and help implement a range of admin and systems support to enable you and the other Duty Managers to do what you do best – being at the front, keeping the customers delighted and the team inspired and motivated.

You’ll also be keen to progress in hospitality, a team player, willing to push boundaries:

· Willing to take on more responsibilities, including hosting overnight guests, maximising bedroom yields, organising events and occasional off-site catering

· Finding better, quicker, safer, more profitable ways of doing things

· You’ll have good references, previous bosses who we can contact and are more than happy to spill the beans on you!

What the ‘deal’ is:

· High rate of pay depending on experience

· PLUS full share of considerable tips

· PLUS share of profit every quarter if bonus targets are hit

· PLUS sensible working hours and shifts

· Total package worth at least £50,000 to £60,000 per annum, depending on experience and performance
