Job description

This is a varied and fast-paced role, helping to keep our fleet moving efficiently while maintaining excellent service levels for our customers. You will be involved in planning daily transport activity, communicating with drivers and customers, identifying operational efficiencies, and supporting safe and compliant transport operations.

We are open to considering candidates for either of the following shift patterns:

  • 4 on 4 off shift pattern - 12 hour shifts, 8am to 8pm or similar
  • Weekend positions - Friday to Monday, hours 35-40 hrs per week
  • The role includes one night per rotation on call

Your Responsibilities

  • Planning and organising the volumes of the Transport Operation, including allocating and planning work to drivers and planning backloads
  • Communicate effectively with drivers, customers and internal teams by phone, email, messaging systems and transport software
  • Establishing and building good working relationships with relevant customers and company teams
  • Plan vehicle activity in the most efficient and practical way
  • Proactively work to maintain the highest levels of service
  • Liaise with customers regarding collection times and delivery bookings
  • Identify opportunities to improve efficiency and generate additional revenue
  • Ensure all planning activities are carried out in a safe and compliant manner in line with policies and procedures, with particular regards for Health & Safety and Operator Licence requirements
  • Contribute to a positive, supportive and team-focused working environment

About you

We are looking for someone who is organised, calm under pressure and comfortable making decisions in a busy transport environment.

Previous experience in transport planning, fleet operations or a similar logistics role would be advantageous, but it is not essential as training can be provided for the right candidate. Knowledge of tachograph rules, drivers’ hours and transport regulations would also be beneficial, though not essential

You should have

  • Good communication and IT skills, including Microsoft office packages
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • The ability to work both independently and as part of a team
  • A proactive, adaptable and practical approach to problem solving
  • Have a can-do attitude
  • Have excellent problem solving, analytical and organisational skills
  • Flexibility around shift patterns and the needs of the operation

Desirable experience

  • Transport planning experience
  • Knowledge of drivers’ hours, tachographs and transport compliance
  • Experience with planning software or fleet systems
