Full job description

At CGI, you’ll help organisations protect critical systems, embed Secure by Design principles and strengthen resilience against an evolving cyber threat landscape. As a Cyber Security Consultant, you’ll take ownership of meaningful security challenges, bringing fresh thinking to projects that support government, defence and other critical sectors. Working alongside an established community of cyber experts, you’ll assess risk across business, technology and operations, embedding security throughout the solution lifecycle rather than treating it as an afterthought. You’ll help clients translate complex challenges into practical, proportionate solutions, with the freedom to contribute ideas and shape outcomes while being supported by collaborative teams, shared expertise and opportunities to develop your career within one of the UK’s largest cyber consultancies.

CGI was recognised in the Sunday Times Best Places to Work List 2025 and has been named a UK ‘Best Employer’ by the Financial Times. We offer a competitive salary, excellent pension, private healthcare, plus a share scheme (3.5% + 3.5% matching) which makes you a CGI Partner not just an employee. We are committed to inclusivity, building a genuinely diverse community of tech talent and inspiring everyone to pursue careers in our sector, including our Armed Forces, and are proud to hold a Gold Award in recognition of our support of the Armed Forces Corporate Covenant. Join us and you’ll be part of an open, friendly community of experts. We’ll train and support you in taking your career wherever you want it to go.

Due to the secure nature of the programme, you will need to hold UK Security Clearance or be eligible to go through this clearance. Location and working pattern: This role requires you to work on the client site in Basingstoke five days per week.

Your future duties and responsibilities

In this role, you will work within CGI’s 280+ strong security community, delivering security services that protect critical client operations. You’ll take ownership of complex cyber security challenges, assess risk across business, technology and operations, and apply Secure by Design principles throughout the lifecycle of systems and services.

You’ll bring creative and critical thinking to client engagements, helping teams identify and address security risks from the earliest stages of design through delivery and operation. Working alongside experienced CGI and client specialists, you’ll have the expertise and support around you to challenge assumptions, influence design decisions and develop proportionate security solutions that strengthen resilience and client confidence.

~ Embed Secure by Design: Integrate security principles, requirements and controls throughout solution and system lifecycles.
~Assess & Advise: Evaluate cyber security risks across business, technology, systems and operational environments.
~Design & Influence: Work with technical and business stakeholders to ensure security considerations inform architecture and design decisions from the outset.
~Protect & Strengthen: Help clients improve security controls, resilience and protection of critical assets.
~Develop & Deliver: Create and enhance cyber security policies, procedures and risk-management approaches.
~Analyse & Inform: Apply threat intelligence and security insight to identify threats, vulnerabilities and appropriate mitigations.
~Collaborate & Challenge: Work with multidisciplinary teams to communicate security risks, challenge assumptions and recommend proportionate solutions.
~Improve & Innovate: Identify opportunities to strengthen security practices and continuously improve security throughout delivery and operations.

Required qualifications to be successful in this role

You should bring strong cyber security knowledge alongside excellent planning, analytical and communication skills. You’ll understand how to apply Secure by Design principles in complex environments and be confident working with technical teams, clients and stakeholders to ensure security is considered throughout the lifecycle. Experience applying recognised security frameworks and translating technical and operational risks into practical recommendations will be important to your success.

~Strong understanding of Secure by Design principles and their practical application across system and solution lifecycles.
~Strong knowledge of security standards and frameworks, including ISO 27001, NCSC Cyber ~Assessment Framework (CAF), Cyber Essentials/Plus and NIST.
~Proven experience in developing cyber security policies, procedures and security requirements.
~Good understanding of security risk assessment, threat identification and appropriate mitigation.
~Experience in data protection, privacy and security change management.
~Knowledge of business continuity, organisational resilience and incident response.
~Good understanding of networks, core infrastructure and systems.
~Strong ability to engage with technical and non-technical stakeholders and communicate security risks and recommendations clearly.

Desirable qualifications: CISSP, CISM and/or CRISC.
Security clearance: This role requires DV Security Clearance. Applicants who do not currently hold clearance may still be considered where they meet the relevant eligibility requirements.
