About this Role

Chiltern Way Academy Austen is a unique, purpose-built co-educational all-through specialist school in Basingstoke, providing education and care for 128 pupils aged 5–16 with a primary diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC). Our modern facilities, specialist classrooms and extensive grounds create a positive learning environment where every child is encouraged to thrive, build confidence and achieve their full potential.

We are seeking a dedicated Student Support Worker to play a key role in managing and supporting student behaviour across the school. Working closely with the Team Leader and wider staff team, you will implement behavioural interventions, support students with Social, Emotional, Communication and Interaction Difficulties (SECID), and help create a safe, nurturing and structured environment where pupils can succeed.

We are looking for someone who:

  • Has experience of supporting children and young people with additional needs and challenging behaviour.
  • Can remain calm, positive and professional in complex and emotionally demanding situations.
  • Is skilled in relationship building, de-escalation and restorative approaches.
  • Has high expectations for all students and is committed to helping them achieve their best outcomes.
  • Can work effectively with families, colleagues and external agencies.
  • Demonstrates resilience, flexibility, warmth and a genuine commitment to the whole school community.

What we offer:

  • The opportunity to work within a supportive and highly skilled specialist school.
  • Ongoing professional development and training, including physical intervention training.
  • A welcoming and inclusive environment where staff are valued and encouraged to grow.
  • The chance to make a real difference to the lives of autistic young people and their families.

At Chiltern Way Academy Austen, we are proud of our friendly, nurturing culture and our commitment to ensuring every student leaves with the skills, confidence and resilience needed for their next stage of life.

We are also very happy to answer any questions you may have about the role or our school. To arrange a convenient time to speak in person, or to visit us ahead of applying, please contact the email address detailed below.
