Property Maintenance / Handyman – Full Time

Location: Ropley, Alresford, Hampshire, SO24 0EF
Hours: Full-time, 40 hours per week (+ overtime available)
Contract: Permanent, full-time

About Rawside

Rawside is a Hampshire-based creative furniture company designing and manufacturing high-quality commercial furniture in the UK.

We are currently a team of around 70 people with ambitious plans for growth. Most of our customers are based in the UK, although we have successfully completed a number of projects in Europe and expect this area of the business to continue growing.

Our environmental and social impact is an important part of how we operate. As a certified B Corp, we are committed to continually improving the positive impact we have on the environment, our community and our team.

The Opportunity

We are looking for a hardworking, practical and reliable Property Maintenance / Handyman to join our team and assist our existing Facilities Manager in maintaining and improving our site in Ropley, Hampshire.

Our site consists of four manufacturing and warehouse buildings, together with surrounding land, parking areas and external facilities. We have a constant variety of maintenance activities, improvements and interesting building projects taking place.

This is a varied, hands-on role that would suit someone with good general handyman or trade skills who enjoys practical work, problem-solving and getting stuck into different tasks.

We are not necessarily looking for someone with formal trade qualifications. More importantly, we want someone who is multi-skilled, physically fit, dependable, willing to learn and happy to turn their hand to whatever needs doing.

No two days will be the same. One day you might be carrying out general building repairs or maintaining the grounds, and the next you could be helping construct a new workshop area or working on a site improvement project.

For the right person, this is an opportunity to become a valued member of a growing business with plenty of interesting work and projects ahead.

Main Duties & Responsibilities

  • Assisting the Facilities Manager with the general maintenance and upkeep of our buildings, workshops, warehouses and surrounding site
  • Carrying out general building repairs, maintenance and improvement work
  • Basic carpentry, joinery, painting, decorating and other handyman tasks
  • Assisting with building alterations, installations and construction projects
  • Maintaining external areas, including parking, pathways, grounds and general site facilities
  • Carrying out basic plumbing repairs and other minor maintenance tasks within your competence
  • Installing shelving, storage systems, fixtures, fittings and other workplace improvements
  • Assisting with moving, installing and positioning equipment, materials and machinery where appropriately trained
  • Identifying maintenance issues and helping resolve them efficiently
  • Keeping tools, equipment, workshops and external areas clean, tidy and organised
  • Working safely and following company health and safety procedures
  • Supporting other practical tasks and projects around the site as required

Experience & Skills

We're looking for someone who:

  • Has previous experience in general property maintenance, handyman work, construction, building or a practical trade
  • Has a good range of general DIY, maintenance and repair skills
  • Is confident using hand tools and power tools safely
  • Is physically fit and comfortable undertaking active, hands-on work
  • Is hardworking, reliable, honest and takes pride in doing a good job
  • Has a positive, flexible attitude and is happy to undertake a wide variety of tasks
  • Can work independently as well as alongside our Facilities Manager and other colleagues
  • Has a practical approach to problem-solving and uses common sense
  • Is willing to learn new skills and develop existing abilities
  • Is comfortable working in a busy manufacturing and industrial environment
  • Has their own reliable means of transport, as our site is in a rural location with limited public transport

Previous experience in carpentry, joinery, general building, plumbing, grounds maintenance or similar trades would be particularly useful, although we do not expect applicants to be skilled in every area.

Above all, we value a good work ethic, reliability and a genuine willingness to get involved.

Working Hours

The standard working week is 40 hours, Monday to Friday.

There may be opportunities for additional overtime depending on maintenance requirements and ongoing projects.

Pay & Benefits

Competitive hourly rate, depending on skills and previous experience.

As a permanent member of the Rawside team, benefits may include:

  • Annual bonus, subject to achieving personal and Company targets
  • Company pension scheme
  • Private healthcare after the qualifying period
  • Enhanced holiday entitlement in line with Company policy
  • On-site parking
  • Opportunities to develop new skills and gain experience across a wide variety of projects

Requirements

Driving Licence: Full UK driving licence preferred (own reliable means of transport)
Right to work: Applicants must be authorised to work in the United Kingdom
Work location: In person – Ropley, Alresford, Hampshire, SO24 0EF

If you're a practical, hardworking person who enjoys fixing things, building things and getting stuck into a variety of tasks, we'd be pleased to hear from you.
