Salary £24,717 - £35,119 per annum (Dependent upon qualifications)

Sunfield Specialist School and Children’s Home sustains a distinguished historical legacy in the beautiful Clent Hills, near Stourbridge, West Midlands. Sunfield’s farm, gardens and woodlands provide excellent opportunities for outdoor learning and practical activities. Sunfield is part of Ruskin Mill Trust.

Established in 1984, Ruskin Mill Trust is an educational charity that operates in England, Scotland and Wales. We offer exciting outdoor learning environments, utilising practical land and craft activities to support the development of work and life skills in young people with autistic spectrum conditions and other learning differences. Our research-led method, Practical Skills Therapeutic Education, is inspired by the work of Rudolf Steiner, John Ruskin and William Morris. Working with hand, head, heart and place, Ruskin Mill Trust helps individuals to re-imagine their potential.

Sunfield Specialist School is an exciting and innovative provision which offers full time education to children who have significant/complex social, emotional or educational difficulties.

At Sunfield Specialist School students learn through a dynamic outdoor land and craft-based practical skills curriculum, which includes; textiles, green woodwork, pottery, cooking and blacksmithing. Alongside this, the school garden provides a space for learning and engagement where young people meet the plant and animal world through appropriate activity.

This is an exciting opportunity for an individual to become part of an established Land Team here at Sunfield. The key duties of this role include:

  • Delivering tailored seasonal garden sessions to learners
  • Developing curriculum opportunities for land-based learning, working with the School Farm Manager, Tutors and Teachers ensuring garden-based learning is supported throughout the school
  • Maintaining the existing school garden, including small scale pig and chicken husbandry
  • Working alongside therapy and land teams to develop immersive sensory and play environments within the context of the garden and wider estate
  • Honesty, reliability; excellent communication skills, resilience, hard-working, versatile, and a great team player.
  • A keenness to improve your own knowledge and skills in a genuinely unique educational environment.
  • Taking an active part in linking the produce from the land for the residential services and school kitchens

Working at Sunfield Specialist School is rewarding and in return, we offer competitive salaries with progression in pay once qualified. In addition, staff receive:

  • A comprehensive induction, an excellent personal development plan and extensive training to include Autism, Attachment, Emotional Resilience, Holistic Support, Practical Skills Therapeutic Education (PSTE), CALM Intervention training and more
  • A beautiful location
  • Free daily lunches while engaging with students
  • Cycle to Work Scheme
  • Free employee assistance programme with BHSF
  • A 2-year Biodynamic farming/growing training course

The Trust is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. Successful applicants will be required to undergo a Disclosure and Barring Service Enhanced Level Disclosure as well as a medical check, references, evidence of qualifications, plus verification of the right to work in the UK.
