Full job description
We are looking for a Health and Safety Policy and Knowledge Manager to help drive and embed a strong health and safety culture across UPP’s portfolio of assets, ensuring all areas of the business consistently adhere to statutory requirements, internal policies and procedures and established best practice by providing subject matter expert (SME) guidance and insight. Supporting the delivery of health and safety strategy across the organisation whilst providing professional competent advice and ensuring compliance with legislation and best practice.
Reporting to the Head of Health and Safety you will support risk management and embedding of a positive safety culture throughout all business activities and provide support in shaping policies and frameworks. This will be achieved by adopting a strong performance-focused, coaching-led approach that supports continual improvement across all areas of responsibility.
You will be responsible for driving forward the internal Health and Safety audit and assurance programme, working with relevant managers to ensure that nonconformities are effectively addressed and closed out.
This isn’t your typical health and safety role. You’ll be at the heart of transforming how safety is understood, embedded and championed across the business. Working with senior leaders and operational teams to make safety simple, impactful and part of everyday decision-making.
You’ll own key systems, projects and lead from the front helping us build a modern, high-performing health and safety culture
This role will be home based and you will live within commutable distance from our London or Nottingham offices, plus there will be occasional travel to our sites.
We are looking for you to be working in a similar role and environment and have comprehensive knowledge and understanding of all aspects of health, safety and risk management across multiple sites, along with:
- NEBOSH Diploma (or equivalent Level 6+) with CertIOSH or MIIRSM status
- Extensive knowledge and understanding of health and safety legislation and best practice
- Experience in completing health and safety management audits against ISO 45001 and implementing corrective action plans to address audit findings
- Experience of writing reports, policies, procedures and safe systems of work in an engaging style
- Understanding of the CDM Regulations and how to apply them
- Ability to undertake health and safety inspections, audits and specific risk assessments
Alongside this you will also have:
- Good written and verbal communication skills
- Analytical thinking, using insight and evidence to identify risks and drive continuous improvement
- Resilience and strong influencing skills with ability to navigate complexity and drive cultural change
- Ability to work autonomously and flexibly, responding to business needs
- Strong interpersonal skills, able to build trust and credibility through expert advice and sound judgement with all levels of stakeholders
- Strong organisational skills with a structured approach and commitment to learning and promoting best practice
We’re keen for you to thrive on new ideas and challenging traditional methods of working and be able to develop innovative solutions to support our business in being able to translate technical health, safety and wellbeing requirements into workable solutions.
In return, we are offering a competitive salary of c.£60k with a great benefits package which includes a discretionary performance bonus, private healthcare, pension, life assurance, training, two paid volunteering or personal development days, cycle to work scheme and 29 days holiday plus bank holidays: as well as discounts from a variety of top retailers, restaurants gyms and more. Check out our website for more information about UPP, our culture and benefits.
