About The Role

Graduate Research Assistant

This Advanced Research and Innovation Agency funded full-time post is available from 1/09/2026 till 31/08/2027.

The starting salary will be from £33,951 on Grade E, depending on knowledge, skills and experience.

The Role

Faculty of Environment, Science and Economy

The Faculty wishes to recruit a Graduate Research Associate to support the work of Bartek Troczka. The successful applicant will have an exciting opportunity to join a project developing genetic tools to help protect a butterfly species from abiotic stressors. The postholder will be responsible for the day-to-day care of insect populations, from establishing new breeding colonies through to supporting diet development work.

The post will include working closely with the wider project team, the postholder will play a central role in ensuring insects are available, healthy and well documented at each stage of the project, and will help gather the life-history data needed to understand how genetic changes affect general insect fitness.

About You

The successful applicant will be able to present information on research progress and outcomes, communicate complex information, orally, in writing and electronically and prepare proposals and applications to external bodies.

Applicants will be educated to first degree level or possess an equivalent qualification/experience in a related field of study or equivalent experience and be able to demonstrate sufficient knowledge in the discipline and of research methods and techniques to work within established research programmes.
