Full job description

KaarbonTech is looking for an ambitious Chief Financial Officer to become a key member of our executive leadership team.

Reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer, you'll play a central role in shaping the financial direction of a growing technology business, bringing clarity, commercial discipline and confidence to executive decision-making.

This is a genuine executive leadership opportunity for an experienced finance leader who enjoys building high-performing organisations, improving financial governance and influencing strategic decisions.

Working alongside the CEO and wider leadership team, you'll help strengthen forecasting, improve financial performance and develop the financial capability needed to support the next stage of the company's growth.

This role would particularly suit an experienced Finance Director, Head of Finance or commercially minded finance leader looking to take the next step into a Chief Financial Officer position.

About KaarbonTech

KaarbonTech is a UK-based infrastructure asset management and data company, combining SaaS platforms, national surveying and maintenance delivery, and advisory services for the Local Authority sector.

Supporting over 40% of English Local Authorities, we help our customers make better investment decisions across drainage, highways, trees and green infrastructure through a combination of technology, data and real-world delivery.

As we continue to grow, strong financial leadership, commercial discipline and confident decision-making are fundamental to our success.

The Role

As Chief Financial Officer, you'll provide executive leadership across the Finance function while acting as a trusted commercial partner to the CEO and wider executive team.

You'll be responsible for ensuring the business has accurate, timely and meaningful financial information, enabling confident decisions and supporting sustainable long-term growth.

Working through an established finance team, your focus will be on leadership, governance, commercial performance and strategic decision support rather than routine transactional accounting.

Key Responsibilities

You will be responsible for:

  • Leading company forecasting, budgeting and cashflow planning.
  • Owning management accounts, financial reporting and financial governance.
  • Providing commercial challenge and financial insight to support executive decision-making.
  • Maintaining visibility of profitability, margin, working capital and cost-to-serve across the business.
  • Acting as financial gatekeeper for investment, expenditure and commercial commitments.
  • Building clear financial visibility across Professional Services, including utilisation, billability, work in progress and revenue recognition.
  • Leading, mentoring and developing a capable finance team.
  • Improving reporting discipline, financial processes and management information.
  • Strengthening financial controls while supporting a culture of commercial accountability.
  • Helping shape the long-term financial strategy of the business.

What We're Looking For

You'll be an experienced finance leader who combines commercial awareness with the confidence to influence decisions and challenge constructively.

You'll ideally bring:

  • Significant experience leading a finance function within a growing organisation.
  • Strong expertise in forecasting, cashflow management, management accounts and financial controls.
  • A commercial mindset with the confidence to influence strategic decision-making.
  • Experience working closely with senior leadership teams.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • A structured, analytical approach that brings clarity and confidence to decision-making.
  • Experience improving financial processes, reporting and governance.
  • A collaborative leadership style with high expectations of both yourself and your team.
  • An interest in using modern technology, data and AI to improve financial insight and business performance.

Operational & Commercial Awareness

We're looking for someone who understands that strong financial leadership starts with understanding how a business operates.

You'll be comfortable working alongside operational leaders to understand how capacity, utilisation, delivery performance, customer outcomes and commercial decisions translate into financial performance.

Experience within organisations delivering professional services, field services, technology or operationally-led businesses would be advantageous.

Why Join KaarbonTech?

This is an opportunity to:

  • Join the executive leadership team of a growing technology business.
  • Report directly to the Chief Executive Officer.
  • Shape the future finance function and influence strategic decision-making.
  • Work across SaaS, professional services, data and national surveying operations.
  • Build financial capability that supports long-term, sustainable growth.
  • Work in an organisation where finance is viewed as a strategic business partner, not simply a reporting function.

Executive Package

As a member of our executive leadership team you'll receive:

  • A direct reporting line to the Chief Executive Officer.
  • A genuine C-suite leadership position with significant influence across the organisation.
  • Eligibility to participate in the Company's Enterprise Management Incentive (EMI) Share Option Scheme following successful completion of probation and in accordance with scheme rules.
  • Flexible remote-first working with occasional travel to company offices, customer sites and leadership events.
  • The opportunity to help shape the future of a growing technology business alongside an experienced executive team.
