Job Description:

We are an independent, family-run jewellers located in the heart of Chichester, West Sussex.

Our focus is on mid to high-end jewellery, with a speciality in bespoke jewellery design and manufacturing.

We are currently recruiting for a full-time Sales Assistant to join our small and varied team.

This is a permanent, full-time role working Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday, with additional days being offered in response to business needs and seasonal periods. Saturday is a permanent working day.

Working Hours: 8:30am to 4:45pm

The ideal candidate will get on well with others and enjoy working as part of a close-knit team. Independent thinking is often required, with the ability to use initiative to carry out tasks, solve problems and manage priorities, sometimes under pressure and to tight deadlines.

Experience is preferred but not essential, as full and comprehensive training will be provided.

Salary is commensurate with experience.

Holiday starts at 4 weeks, then an extra day is earned per year for 5 years - 31 days total maximum.

While bespoke jewellery is at the heart of what we offer, the successful candidate will have the opportunity to develop a broad knowledge of the jewellery industry and learn about many areas of the business, including:

• Bespoke jewellery commissions and the process from initial customer consultation through to completion.
• Product knowledge, gemstones, precious metals and jewellery care.
• Replacement and probate valuations.
• Jewellery repairs and alterations.
• Scrap metal purchasing and assessment.
• High-end jewellery sales.
• Customer consultations and developing long-term customer relationships.

The Role

The role will be varied, and no two days are necessarily the same. Day-to-day responsibilities will include:

• Welcoming customers into the showroom and providing a friendly, knowledgeable and professional service.
• Speaking to customers face-to-face and via the telephone, understanding their requirements and helping them find the right solution.
• Completing jewellery sales and providing a high level of service throughout the customer journey.
• Taking comprehensive details for bespoke commissions and helping customers understand the bespoke process.
• Building strong relationships with customers and developing repeat business.
• Learning and confidently sharing our product knowledge to maximise sales and provide an exceptional customer experience.
• Assisting with jewellery repairs, alterations, valuations and other customer enquiries as your training and experience develops.
• Learning to assess and purchase scrap precious metals as part of our wider customer service offering.
• Supporting the team with high-value and bespoke sales, including customer consultations and private viewings.
• Keeping up to date with products, services and jewellery knowledge.
• General housekeeping, keeping the showroom clean, tidy and presented to a high standard.
• General window dressing and maintaining showroom displays.
• Stock replenishment, presentation and organisation.
• General administration and computer-based tasks.
• Any additional tasks required to support the shop and wider team.

• Store tidying and ensuring displays are maintained to a high standard.
• Always being alert while on the shop floor and following company security policies and procedures.
• Always being keen to serve and help our customers as best possible.
• Be computer literate, with a good/functional understanding of and ability to use both Windows and Mac-based computers, word processing, spreadsheets and web browsing.
• Be self-motivated, organised and able to work independently.
• Have the ability to use initiative, solve problems and manage multiple tasks.
• Be comfortable working in a busy retail environment and remaining calm and professional under pressure.
• Work well as part of a small, varied team.
