Full job description

Please note that applicants must have the unrestricted right to work in the UK at the time of application and for the duration of employment.

We are unable to offer visa sponsorship now or in the future for this role, and proof of eligibility will be required.

This role is a hybrid role and will require 3 days a week in our Rugby based office. We do not have provisions for travel or accomodation budget.

The multi-award-winning Up Hotel Agency Ltd is looking for a Frontend Web Developer to join our forward-thinking and exciting agency. We are searching for an experienced candidate with 3+ years experience (agency preferred), who is looking to grow and has a hunger to learn and apply new technologies.

Our goal is to deliver high-quality projects that both our clients and the team can be proud of. Our environment is supportive and friendly, and we use a range of progressive open source technologies to fulfil a wide range of creative client briefs. The ideal candidate must have a track record and portfolio of live websites (custom-built using WordPress) to back up their CV.

Job Overview:

The successful candidate will be experienced in developing bespoke responsive Wordpress websites, have a deep knowledge of the latest web technology use and a driven approach working within a thought-leading agency. You will also be able to work from approved designs provided by our in-house design team. Must have a proven history of website development in an agency environment and a keen eye for design. Must also be familiar with up-to-date optimisation practises for site speed and accessibility.

Our Environment:

We offer candidates the opportunity to work on a hybrid basis between the office and home, with office working at our Rugby premises 3 x a week (Mon-Weds), and 2 days at home.

We like to make sure we have a really lovely culture here at Up, and our team generally regards each other as friends as well as coworkers - there’s usually no end of treats milling around and excuses to go for lunch together or to the pub after work for a drink.

There is also training for the hospitality industry, encouragement of individuals to grow for career development and monthly 1-2-1 meetings to ensure you feel valued and listened to – we really do care for the people who work here!

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Developing websites using bespoke designs from scratch (not only pre-purchased themes).
  • Add additional features to live websites.
  • Test and repair issues/bugs across website developments.
  • Support with upkeep and maintenance of websites.
  • Be able to work autonomously and within a team
  • Provide high-quality cross-team communication.
  • Provide high-quality service to clients and customers
  • Work as a part of a creative and dynamic team supported by experienced and passionate people.

Skills:

Must have relevant real-world experience within the below:

  • Modern HTML / CSS (3+ years – a good understanding of flex, grid, srcset and CSS variables will go a long way)
  • SASS
  • Javascript (including jQuery)
  • Extensive WordPress + PHP (3+ years)
  • Advanced Custom Fields Pro
  • Custom Post Types
  • WPML (multilingual)
  • Ability to work effectively from provided concepts in design software
  • Web Server / Domain Management (WHM/cPanel)
  • Strong skillset within QA and delivering feedback
  • Git / Version control

Desired But Not Required Skills:

  • Adobe/Sketch/Figma
  • Previous client-facing experience and/or account management
  • Experience working in a UK-based agency
  • Experience with popular Wordpress plugins, e.g.
  • WordPress Multisite
  • Gravity Forms
  • WP Rocket
  • Woocommerce
  • Experience with JavaScript Frameworks
  • Experience using npm / Gulp / Docker
  • Experience building websites in the hospitality industry
  • Previous mentor experience for more junior developers
  • Experience building custom WordPress Plugins (with examples)

The Process:

We will start by reviewing portfolios via applications. First contact will be made via Indeed Mail. A first interview will be performed via phone, and the second interview will be in person at our Rugby offices.
