About Us

We are a passionate, innovative and fast-growing software company that develops award-winning property technology solutions.

Our cloud-based platform, SME Professional, is trusted by letting and estate agents across the UK. We also build websites and digital solutions for the property, finance and legal sectors. With a team of nearly 50 people, we're committed to delivering exceptional products and outstanding customer service.

We value curiosity, innovation and continuous improvement. Our modern office beside Leith Links offers flexible working spaces, regular social events and a supportive, collaborative culture.

The Role

We’re looking for a Software Developer to join the engineering team behind our SaaS platform, SME Professional.

You’ll work within a cross-functional squad alongside other developers, a Product Manager and QA, taking responsibility for developing, testing and delivering software that our customers rely on every day.

Our established platform is built primarily on PHP (Silex/Symfony/Laravel) and MySQL. We’re continuing to deliver significant new functionality while modernising the underlying technology stack and introducing new AI-enabled capabilities.

This is a role for someone who already has solid commercial development experience and is looking to take greater ownership of their work, develop their technical judgement and contribute as part of an experienced and supportive engineering team.

What You'll Be Doing

Build and Improve Our Platform

  • Develop and maintain functionality within our SaaS platform
  • Work primarily with PHP, MySQL and JavaScript-based technologies
  • Develop and integrate with REST APIs and third-party services
  • Investigate and resolve defects and production issues
  • Contribute to the ongoing modernisation of our application and framework

Work as Part of a Squad

  • Collaborate closely with developers, Product Managers and QA
  • Contribute to planning, technical discussions and solution design
  • Take ownership of work from development through testing and release
  • Raise technical risks, questions or blockers early
  • Help the squad deliver high-quality software predictably and sustainably

Maintain High Engineering Standards

  • Write clear, maintainable and appropriately tested code
  • Participate in code reviews and provide constructive feedback to colleagues
  • Apply sound software engineering principles without unnecessary complexity
  • Help identify technical debt and opportunities to improve existing code
  • Learn from experienced engineers and share knowledge with the wider team

What We're Looking For

  • Around 3+ years of commercial software development experience, or equivalent experience demonstrating the ability to work effectively at this level
  • Strong PHP and MySQL experience
  • Experience with Laravel, Symfony or another modern PHP framework
  • Good understanding of OOP and software design principles
  • Experience with Git and collaborative development workflows
  • Experience developing or integrating REST APIs
  • Experience with automated testing, ideally PHPUnit or similar
  • Understanding of the software development lifecycle from requirements through to release
  • Ability to understand and work confidently within an established codebase
  • Good problem-solving and communication skills
  • Confidence contributing ideas while being open to feedback and different approaches
  • A collaborative, positive attitude and willingness to take responsibility for your work

Working With AI

AI is becoming an increasingly important part of both our products and our day-to-day engineering practices.

You don’t need to be an AI specialist, but you should be familiar with AI coding tools and best practices and be able to embrace these to help you deliver your work.

What We Offer

  • Annual salary reviews
  • Hybrid working environment
  • Flexible working opportunities
  • Summer 4-day working week during August
  • Although overtime is rare, it is offered as paid overtime or flexi-time in lieu
  • Company pension scheme
  • Enhanced family leave after one year of service
  • Company sick pay
  • Cycle-to-work scheme
  • Personal wellness account with access to wellbeing advice, webinars and one-to-one support
