Full job description

Glais House Care Home is looking for an enthusiastic, caring and reliable Cook to join our kitchen team.

We are looking for someone who takes pride in preparing fresh, nutritious and appetising meals and understands the importance of food in supporting the health, wellbeing and enjoyment of our residents.

The Role

You will be responsible for preparing and cooking meals for our residents, ensuring that food is nutritious, varied, well-presented and meets individual dietary requirements.

The role will include:

  • Preparing and cooking breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks.
  • Following planned menus and adapting meals where required.
  • Preparing meals for residents with specific dietary requirements, allergies and texture-modified diets.
  • Working in accordance with food hygiene and health & safety requirements.
  • Maintaining high standards of cleanliness and organisation within the kitchen.
  • Correctly storing, labelling and dating food.
  • Monitoring food temperatures and completing relevant kitchen records.
  • Working closely with care and nursing staff to understand residents' nutritional needs and preferences.
  • Taking residents' likes, dislikes and cultural preferences into consideration.
  • Minimising food waste while maintaining appropriate stock levels.
  • Supporting special occasions and seasonal menus.

About You

We are looking for someone who is:

  • Experienced in cooking, preferably within a care home, nursing home, hospital or similar setting.
  • Knowledgeable about food hygiene and safe food handling.
  • Able to prepare meals to a high standard and accommodate different dietary needs.
  • Reliable, organised and able to work independently.
  • Patient, compassionate and respectful towards older people.
  • A good team player with a positive attitude.
  • Able to communicate effectively with colleagues.

A Food Hygiene Certificate and relevant cooking qualifications or experience are desirable. Experience with IDDSI/texture-modified diets and nutritional requirements for older people would be an advantage.

Hours & Pay

£19.00 per hour
70 hours over a 2-week period

In addition to your hourly rate, there may be opportunities to benefit from:
