Full job description
Are you interested in protecting and improving public health? An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Environmental Health Technician to join the Environmental Protection Team.
As the successful post holder working within a small team, you will undertake a wide range of duties across the service including responding to and investigating reports relating to noise, dust, odour, light and other public health nuisances, using a range of advice and enforcement options to secure improvements.
Experience of dealing with the public is an essential requirement of this post, but prior knowledge of environmental protection matters is not essential as the appointee will be supported to develop their knowledge in this area.
Good administrative skills and an ability to communicate effectively with the public are essential requirements. Suitable candidates must also be able to plan, organise and manage their own workloads, use time effectively and work with the minimum of supervision.
You will be based in the City centre but expected to travel widely across the City. Contracted hours are 37 hours per week and this will occasionally include evening and weekend duties and participating in the Night Noise Service rota.
If you have the skills to educate and to effectively communicate legal requirements, the character to take firm enforcement action and a commitment to delivering a quality service, then we would like to hear from you.
As an employer we like to thank our employees for their hard work and commitment by giving them the opportunity to access a range of employee benefits including flexi time, hybrid working, a minimum of 25 days’ annual leave (plus Bank Holidays), family friendly policies, access to an Employee Assistance Programme, Local Government Pension Scheme, AVC’s, life assurance scheme, discounted parking, bus and rail fares and a cycle to work scheme.
If you have any questions regarding the role please contact: Michelle Reynolds, Environmental Health Manager, via email m.reynolds@preston.gov.uk
