News Archives Operations Specialist
Location: Rainham, Essex

Your team: Rights, Licensing & Archives delivers cross-business rights management, content protection, licensing, and archiving services to both internal teams and external customers. The department supports News UK by maximising content value, protecting intellectual property, and ensuring long-term asset preservation.

News Archives comprises the document, artefact, back issues, and picture collections, alongside information and records management services, within Rights, Licensing & Archives. The team supports all News UK departments in content acquisition, creation, management, delivery, and asset protection.

Your role: We are looking for a News Archives Operations Specialist to join our dynamic team. You will manage, preserve, and unlock the full potential of News UK's rich historical and multimedia assets. Reporting to the News Archives Manager, you will play a key part in maintaining digital and physical collections while identifying revenue opportunities and supporting editorial research.

Day to day you will:

• Archive images, documents, and multimedia assets in accordance with departmental standards and copyright requirements.

• Manage information resources and image metadata within the CHP database to ensure security and integrity.

• Conduct detailed research to support editorial, radio, podcast, and commercial licensing projects.

• Digitise physical archive formats, including scanning images for editorial requests and internal or external exhibitions.

• Facilitate training programmes for newsroom teams on archiving systems and self-service research tools.

• Process record deposits, retrievals, and loans in line with corporate governance and compliance requirements.

What we're looking for from you:

• Proven experience archiving diverse content types using image management and database systems such as CHP, Calm, Factiva, or similar applications.

• Practical experience handling, cataloguing, and packaging physical archive materials or artefacts in line with conservation principles.

• Strong understanding of copyright principles, image clearance rights, and asset protection.

• Clear communication skills with a customer-focused approach to delivering accurate research under tight deadlines.

• Adaptable problem-solving skills to manage changing priorities and navigate ambiguous research requests effectively.
