Real Care Ltd T/A Learning for Life is a charity that provides Education and Social Care for individuals aged 16+ with a range of disabilities.

A vacancy has arisen for the role of part time Tutor, 24.5hpw (over 3 days, TTO + two weeks, 40 week permanent contract); based in Consett County Durham. A recognised teaching qualification is required for this role.

Essential Qualifications

• A recognised teaching, training or education qualification (e.g. AET, CET, DET, Cert Ed, PGCE, QTLS or equivalent)
• Experience of delivering engaging learning opportunities to young people or adults.
• GCSE English and Maths (Grade 4/C or above) or equivalent.

The successful candidate will support the smooth running of the provision by:

• Taking responsibility for a class/ group of learners as directed by the Management team.
• Working as part of a multi-professional team to meet the needs of learners attending the centre.
• Behave in a professional way at all times in keeping with the vision and ethos of the company.
• Plan and deliver lessons following the programme of study outlined in the accredited award scheme
• Prepare, monitor and evaluate personal progression plans / ILPs
• To attend reviews and complete all documentation.
• Collate student work in preparation for internal verification and external moderation.
• Work with the Management Team to develop and maintain a process for monitoring and evaluating the effectiveness of teaching and learning throughout the centre.
• Direct support staff in their role within the learning environment.
• Support students in social and emotional well-being, reporting problems to the Management team, as appropriate.
• Support learners to access community based activities/lessons
• Liaise with external agencies on a regular basis.
• Maintain positive relationships with parents/carers.
• To work with learners who have a range of special needs including severe learning difficulties, autism and behavioural issues.
• To assist during meal times and support with personal care where required
• Liaise with other professionals regarding eating and feeding programmes, moving and handling plans, medical management plans and self-care programmes as directed by the management of the company.
• Administer prescribed medicine in accordance with company policy and practice (training provided).
• Escort ill students to hospital, hand over to parents/carers before returning to the provision.
• Write and update behaviour management plans.
• Take a lead and put into practice behaviour management techniques as outlined in individual behaviour management plans.
• Use physical intervention or other techniques when managing behaviour if necessary (training provided).
• Fully engage in both internally and externally provided professional development.
• Mentor newly appointed staff/apprentices and students/volunteers as directed by the company management team.
• Work in any department of the provisions when necessary and as directed by the company Management Team.
• Manage Risk Assessments both on and off-site.
• Take responsibility for updating and recording details which affect the day to day running of the College.
• Carry out other duties or responsibilities as required under the direction of the Management Team.

Essential Qualifications

• A recognised teaching, further education teaching, training or education qualification (e.g. AET, CET, DET, Cert Ed, PGCE, QTLS or equivalent)
• GCSE English and Maths (Grade 4/C or above) or equivalent

Desirable Qualifications

• Qualified Teacher Status (QTS), Qualified Teacher Learning and Skills (QTLS) or other advanced teaching qualification relevant to Further Education and Skills.
• A qualification in careers education, employability, supported employment, supported internships, vocational learning or work-based learning.
• A qualification, accreditation or specialist training relating to Preparing for Adulthood (PfA), including employability, independent living, community inclusion, travel training, personal development or transition to adulthood.
• SEND-specific qualifications or training, including autism, learning disabilities, communication needs, positive behaviour support or person-centred planning
• Level 3 or above qualification in Information, Advice and Guidance (IAG), Careers Guidance or Coaching and Mentoring.
• Functional Skills, ESOL or vocational assessor qualifications (e.g. TAQA/A1/V1) where relevant to the curriculum area.
