Application Deadline: Recruitment is ongoing. Please apply as soon as possible as the advert may close once we have sufficient applicants.

The Opportunity

Join our 2027 Graduate Programme as a Graduate Hydrologist in our Edinburgh office, where you will be part of our Water Environment discipline and help deliver high-quality hydrology, flood risk, modelling and environmental assessment work for clients across the water sector and beyond.

As a Stantec graduate, you will collaborate with your team and wider cohort, developing your professional skills and expertise within an exciting and creative interdisciplinary environment. You will have the opportunity to work with leading technical experts throughout the UK and contribute to exciting projects while developing your career.

Stantec’s market-leading Technical and Environmental services group in the Water sector supports clients across the water industry, including water companies, regulators and research bodies across the UK and, occasionally, internationally. We also support multidisciplinary work across other sectors, including energy and infrastructure.

You will join a friendly team of Hydrologists, contributing to high-quality projects and applying digital modelling skills to real-world challenges. These projects include enhancing the resilience of public water supply, flood risk alleviation, sustainable drainage schemes, nature-based solutions, climate change assessments and catchment management. About The Role

By joining our Hydrology team, you will help conceptualise, analyse and report on hydrological systems and processes, with a focus on flood modelling, hydrological estimation and catchment science. Your core responsibilities include:

  • Assessing the flood risk impact of national infrastructure and water-sector projects.
  • Supporting the design of Sustainable Urban Drainage Systems and stormwater management solutions.
  • Contributing to the hydraulic and hydrological aspects of nature-based solutions.
  • Investigating the impact of the built environment on hydrology in 1D and 2D space.
  • Using flood modelling and hydrological estimation software packages to support project delivery.
  • Developing your technical and project delivery skills across water resources, river and coastal modelling, flood risk assessments, drought analysis, climate change assessments and catchment management.

We are committed to supporting employees in achieving relevant professional qualifications and accreditation. This role offers a supportive environment to further your personal and professional development through our graduate programme, comprehensive training opportunities, mentoring and hands-on project experience.

Your Impact

This role will help deliver better outcomes for communities and the environment by supporting high-quality solutions to water-sector challenges, including flood risk, water resources, sustainable drainage, nature-based solutions and climate resilience. Your work will help clients understand hydrological systems, manage risk and deliver positive environmental outcomes.

We are looking for candidates with a keen interest in hydrology, catchment science, flood risk, modelling, the water industry and supporting high-quality multidisciplinary project work.

About you

At Stantec, we value your potential over past experience. Along with a minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in an Engineering Discipline, Geology, Geography, Environmental Science or other relevant subject with a keen interest in working in Hydrology, you will be:-

  • An Adapter - You’re able to remain calm in new and changing situations, comfortably switching between a variety of dynamic and exciting tasks.
  • A Perseverer - You stay composed in the face of setbacks, approaching challenges with confidence and determination.
  • An Eager Learner - You learn from your experiences and the world around you, using this knowledge to anticipate how situations may unfold.
  • A Collaborator - You work effectively with lots of different people, considering others’ perspectives to shape better outcomes.
  • A Problem-Solver - You love to give your thoughts based on what you see, being unafraid to challenge conventional thinking.

Please note, we ask our graduates to come into the office 4 days per week, to ensure that you receive sufficient time with your team and receive the appropriate level of support.

What we can offer you:

  • A competitive salary
  • Private medical insurance
  • A range of benefits, including holiday buy and sell, group income protection and life assurance
  • Permanent employment contract to demonstrate our commitment to your long-term career at Stantec
  • Professional progression plan, supporting you to gain professional chartership
  • A supportive and collaborative team environment and Early Careers peer group and wider ERG network (see more on our ERGs here: Stantec Employee Resource Groups)

Applicants must have an unconditional right to live and work in the UK for an indefinite period without limitation.

Please take a look at our Graduate FAQs ( Graduate Application FAQs ) if you have any questions. We look forward to receiving your application!
